Hi everybody

I just bought and installed a Solid G Gyro into my vibe 50.

Stupid question but can anybody confirm for me that this Gyro can only be used in heading hold and cannot be switched into rate mode.

I'm used to using CSM 720 and Futaba GY401 Gyros where you can switch between the two modes depending on the gain settings you have set in the TX.

It makes no mention of this in the manual so i can only presume that it can not be used as a rate Gyro.

Much appreciated if someone can confirm this for me.......thanks.

That is correct, heading hold mode only. It helps to have a G view because the gain setting in your tx will definitely most likely not be the actual gain on the gyro. For instance, you can have your Tx sending out a rate mode gain value but the gyro wont care, it will see something different that correlates to a heading hold gain. Also, if your Tx is telling you that you have x-value of heading hold gain, again, the gyro may correlate that to something else. So dont think that just because you have a gain value in your tx of 38 like the Solid G says to start with that the gyro is actually at 38.

Solid G

Thanks for your replies.

I'll have to buy a G view, like you say i have no clue as to what the actual gyro gain is.

I use a JR 9x 2.4 radio and i have 80% set in the Gyro gain page but have no clue as to what that equates to in actual gain.

On a Futaba GY401 that would mean i was in rate mode, on my CSM720 it would mean i was in heading hold mode.

I'm tempted to suspend the first flight until i can purchase a G view.

Also bought the 8900G tail servo, that is one noisey servo !!!!!,

If anyone uses the JR 2.4 radio and this Gyro combination please could you inform me as to what gain settings you use on your Gyro gain page on yout TX.

Just gaives me a starting point.

Have a nice Christmas.....

I running the same set up as you with the exception that for servo 9254 not an 8900 Gain is set at POS 0 75% POS 1 70% with radix 92mm blades.
I did have to dial down the stopping speed. I forget now which value I changed but did need the Gview to get into it. Stock setting when stopping from a fast Piro would almost make me pi$$ me pants it stopped so hard and fast, I'm sure my tail was groaning after I tried it.

Fly Time !!!!!

Your right no point in delaying the test flight.

I might try it tomorrow sfternoon after i've had my Christmas Turkey !!!!.

To my mind i'll have to be more careful with the initial "spool up".

Normally i start in rate mode, let the govenor get up to speed, then switch over into heading hold.

I can just picture my vibe doing piro's on the ground during spool up because my tail blades were hard over to one side !!!!!!.

Expo

Does anybody use the Tx expo to soften up the center point response ?.

Ive never used this on the rudder channel before, but ive read somewhere that this Gyro is very sensitve around the middle.

I'll guess i'll find out for myself tomorrow !!!!.

Regards

Curtis has said that running expo is no problem and alot of the futuba guys trying his gyro use expo to give that deadband feel not as twitchy around center I don't use any and I switched from a 611 after I got use to it I liked the touchyness around center

you can shoot buzzin brian a pm he knows that gyro inside out and backwards he should be able to help with it and with a G view there are ways to soften start and stop in the gyro programming hope that helps .AWESOME gyro by the way

No need to do that. Just don't move the heli while its initializing.. and your good to go.

I'm not familiar with the Solid G at all, but just reading this post, if the gyro can only be used in HH mode, how do you trim for nuetral in rate mode? Am I missing something here?

Thx.

the setup makes you set all the points even without the Gview.

and its very solid gyro works like a champ.

will be getting a Gview for mine on my new 600N.

S76 mech, There is a neutral point function in the setting menu, where it will put the servo to center. You adjust the linkage length in that function. There is no need for trimming with the solid-g. Two possible way of adjustment, one is to adjust the servo neutral to be the zero pitch point on the tail blades. The other is to center the tail pitch slider on the tail shaft with the servo in neutral position. Both way works for me.

Just to check with you guys using the solid-g, how do you guys take off? I get this problem whereby the tail will spin around fast upon spooling up because the gyro registers the movement from carrying the heli to the flight line. Do you just wiggle the stick before spooling up?
