Hi,

Has anyone else had a problem getting the new version firmware 1.10 to initialize in their SK360?

I followed the procedure to the letter. I get all the way to where my PC sends the new firmware to the SK360 with the window "update complete" popping up, but when I cycle the power with the switch moved to the left I immediatly go to setup mode and get the error: Warning the GUI and firmware are too different! And my Skookum software window shows that my gyro is still running version 1.04 which it came with.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the new version and the same results

Anybody got any advice. I did email Skookum but I guess they're off for Christmas and I don't blame them. Just hoping someone here can help.

Yeah this one programs fine and i took it out and flew it today on 1.04 and it works great functionally. Just can't make it update to 1.10 even though the revision loads into the gyro

Are you certain that you are in FLIGHT MODE when you initiate the firmware update?

Yes it's in flight mode just like the instructions indicate. You can't get it to do the update without being in flight mode. The PC software shows the bar graph progress as it loads and the update complete window pops up after it's done loading

Everything works just like the manual states until I cycle the power and all that happens then is an error window immediately pops up.

I see that some others have had some problems installing ver 1.10.

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t487762p1/

The thread is closed so I was hoping any of you guys who managed to get yours loaded after having problems can help me.

I see that loading earlier versions and updating one version at a time has worked. The 1.10 manual says not to load anything less than 1.04 on the newer units which is what I have. Has anyone tried loading earlier firmware on a newer board and then gotten 1.10 to load.

I emailed Art and he said I could send it up there for him to repair/replace but I don't really feel like being without the heli for a few weeks since I have a funfly to go to and would be cutting it very close to getting it back in time.

QueeQueg I had the same problem when I first hooked up my SK360.
You need to go to the Skookum website and download the Ver. 1.10 update to the software.

You need to have the gyro hooked up to the PC software in test mode.

1) when hooked up and the green connected light is on, go to the update firmware tab and click that.
2) when the firmware file pops up, double-click on the Ver. 1.10.
3) follow the steps that will pop up next.

4) Power down the gyro
5) set the mode switch away from the dials
6) Hold down the button on the gyro's side(gently)(opposite of the front marked side)
7) while still holding down the button,Power up the gyro, and release the button.
8) then push the okay button in the window.

It should load the firmware.

Thanks Curtis,

I give it a try here in a little bit.

I got it pretty well tuned today and the only problem I have that I think 1.10 will solve is that when I finally get the bell gain low enough to loose the elevator tail bob the cyclic feels sluggish right off center.

I see they did some work on this for 1.10.

I'll let you know how it works out

For the elevator bobbing effect,

maybe u can increase the damping value.
U can also increase the Hiller Decay value.

Make sure you save your settings on the gyro to a file before upgrading to the newer version, then once you have the gyro updated you can load your orginial settings and start from there.

I tried it Curtis and unfortunately the same results.

Everything works like it's supposed to up until I cycle the power. The firmware progress bar shows it loading and completing but it will not actually update.

I'm going to try one more thing and that is downloading the setup software on to a buddies PC and trying to load the 1.10 firmware from there. If that doesn't work I'll have to send it back after the fun fly. I keep getting an "error in file" pop up when I uninstall either 1.06 or 1.10. I may have a corrupted file causing this problem.

Thanks for the tuning tips SH I'll give them a try.

My mate had the same issue as well. It turns out it has to do with the location/destination of files. Below is a copy of what needs to be done. Don't look for the Hex file using the Skookum setup page itself. You must go to "c:\Program Files\DigitalFlybar\" to obtain the Hex file. Follow the directions on the 2nd last page of the manual to complete the instalation.

My mate and I felt like a pair of right numbskulls trying to figure this out, took us ages.

Hpoe this works for you.

Notes about this rev:

The file format of the setup file has changed with this rev. In order to not lose your heli's SK360 setup, you must save your setup profile to your computer's hard drive first from the File menu of the old rev of the setup software. Only then should you upgrade to rev 1.10 of the software and firmware.
Run the new installer, then upgrade the firmware as per the 2nd-to-last page of the user manual. The new firmware (hex) file can be found in the directory "c:\Program Files\DigitalFlybar\"
Once you have installed the new interface software and updated the firmware, go to the File menu to load your old setup. At the bottom of the dialog window, select , "Files of Type : sk1 Profiles", and load your old setup profile.
Your old profile will now have been converted to the new format, and can be sent to your heli's SK360.
Please read section 13 of the manual version included with this download for further instructions, found under the Help menu item of the setup software.

I gave it a shot Tripper but I'm still not getting it.

Art actually even emailed me the HEX file and I tried that too but the same thing

Either I hopelessly screwed it up or it's got some hardware issue.

Can anybody tell how the blue LED on their USB interface behaves.

Mine initially comes on and rapidly strobes when I plug it in to my PC but turns off within 10 seconds or it dims sometimes and stays on and seems to be effected by me playing with PC to interface chord.

When the chord is plugged into both the PC and a powered Gyro it srobes slowly and consistently. But at all other times it's very erratic.

Today I got a pop up message saying that my "PC doesn't recognize the item plugged into USB port that it has malfunctioned try unplugging and replugging it". Although it does recongnize it again now though the LED is still screwy.

Okay, I just plugged my gyro into the PC.

This is what I get,and I am having no problems with updating or setting up the gyro.

When I hooked the gyro up to the PC but did not power up the gyro I have no light action on the LED at all.

When I turn on the software program but still have not powered up the gyro, the same thing no lights on the led.

When I power up the gyro and get the green connection tab the led light is blinky rapidly, probably about 2-3 blinks per second. And stays continously doing this.

Hope this helps

Mine blinks about once a second when hooked up to the pc and gyro and the setup software is running. It also lights up when I first plug it into the PC for about a 5 seconds and blinks very rapidly. But it also comes on sometimes if I play with the cord so I might have something funky with my connection.

Anyway I just bit the bullet and sent it back to Art to let him deal with it. He said he could turn it right around so I should get it back before I need it.

Thanks for trying Curtis

Similar issues with someadditions..............

When I use the current Digital Flyer program version 1.10 not only is the page outlay differ in a few ways, i.e., there is no option for Swash mixing either "in gyro" or "in transmitter", etc. I get the warning/attention: GUI and Firmware revision numbers are too different, but I also get ERROR messages when I try to either retrieve or send gyro messages, i.e., "Error receiving setup from the gyro" or Error setup to the gyro". I also get a "Failed to Update Firmware" as well. The version 1.05 doesn't get the " GUI and Firmware revision numbers are too different, but I still can't seemingly communicate with the gyro either on firmware updates or sending or receiving gyro data.

The gyro seems to be communicating with the computer though, as I do get the green "CONNECTED" panel on the software dialogue box and there is flashing on the USB connector/adapter. There is also a stable green LED on the gyro as well either in the setup mode or flight mode on the gyro. Also the numbers in the fields change values with both the green and the red background highlighting. I must tell you though that trying to hold that darned button in whilst you power up the unit was a good trick. I am sure someone is going to tell me how stupid I am, that there is a very easy way around that..........LOL.

Anyway, I am very frustrated as I just got this heli from an online consignment .com vendor. They are a great vendor and the guy that had this built flew it very little and spared few expenses when he put this together and bought parts. I know I got a good deal, just I am very fed up right now with my frustrations to get this to work. I can empathize with others on this thread that am most likely looking at sending the unit back into Skookum. I am about to just order another one to have a spare on hand while this one gets repaired or replaced. I haven't even been able to try flying this bird yet.

Oh, and yes..........I've tried all the recommendations listed on this thread to avail as well..............Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Thanks for taking the time to read this and make any suggestions. What I find interesting are the growing numbers of owners that seem to be having this same problem either totally or to some degree. It makes me think that Skookum might have had a bad run of parts or assembly, since there looks to be some that have had nary a problem or issue.

Regards,
Okinell

P.S. I feel you pain QeeQueg.........

Hi,

"The gyro seems to be communicating with the computer though, as I do get the green "CONNECTED" panel on the software dialogue box and there is flashing on the USB connector/adapter...."

This means the revision of the setup software is newer than the firmware rev on the SK360. If you can't get it to update after following the instructions in the back of the manual, we'd be happy to replace or repair the unit ASAP. Another option would be to download an older rev of the setup software from the skookum website, try rev 1.05.

Yes, the setup software was upgraded a lot for rev 1.10, to give users a bunch of features they were asking for. But the option for "in transmitter mixing" was almost never used, so it was removed to make room. The new features added were an external gain channel, banks, and dual endpoints for the servos.

Every unit is tested before shipping and has the same procedure run to put its firmware on originally, but the button can be a bit delicate, and...many people don't read the instructions
But again, if the unit won't update, we're happy to repair or replace it.
