Considering buying a Sony HC1 or HC5 on eBay. Not being familiar with camcorders, other than an old VHR, will I really notice that much difference in quality?

I am not sure about the HC1 but I have a HC5 and am very happy with the quality considering the price. I do wish it had the option to shoot 60fps but I guess that requires a higher end camera.

Hi - The HC1 pre dates the HC5 by a couple of years, but I don't think you'll see much difference in video quality. The HC1 is a bit bigger and heavier and has much better manual controls for things like focus and exposure. For that reason it gets my vote - you have more scope to set it up to suit what you are using it for. I have been very happy with my HC1 - but you only have to have a quick look through this forum to see people also getting very good results with the HC5.

I use the HC9 and love it. I understand that the HC5 is the same in terms of quality. Go for it.

Not really a difference between the two cameras other then a few small features, he video quality wise they are the same, I'd go with the hc5, oh wait I already did:-), great camera, I am now using a Sony zu1, which I like better
