I'm pretty much a 2m/440 guy myself. I also really don't have any HF plans at this time. Though I do own an HF receiver (Icom IC-R75) and enjoy dxing for HF traffic...primarily military/civilian aircraft and maritime ships. Recently, I tuned into air traffic controllers in Johannesburg, South Africa communicating to an airliner over the South Atlantic. It's amazing how a just 50 ft. piece of speaker wire running from my house to the kid's swing set can bring in traffic from that distance .

DSTAR is an awesome technology. We have a DSTAR repeater here in the Indianapolis area. It's amazing how many repeaters are now up and running in the U.S.

I remember many naysayers (those Hams who are always resistant to change) stating that DSTAR would never take hold here in the U.S. because of it being Icom's proprietary technology. Looks like they were all wrong .
