› 4#3B Tail Motor falls apart first day :(

So on the first day I managed to break the tiny stand that holds the tail up, then the boom breaks where it is attached to the frame. Both these issues I was able to work around but then the plastic backing fell off the tail motor, how often can I expect that to happen? I had a few rough landings sure but they were only a few feet off the floor and I cut the power before each one.

I was really hoping this thing would be more durable but I find myself terribly mistaken and grounded until I can get a new tail motor. Are there better after-market parts available or should I just stock up on the OEM parts?

I also wanted to mention that the Heli makes a high pitch squealing sound after binding to the radio, is this normal?

There are some weak points and spare parts are must on this micro as well. OEM parts are fine and motors should be on the list, but not because they fall apart, rather from flying and wearing them out....

I sent you a PM

Squeeling sound

Mine squeels too. At first I thought it was the 5-in-1, but upon closer inspection, I found that it was actually my elevator servo. It could be one of the motors as well.

These little buggers are quite tricky to fly and not nearly as solid as the E-Flight mCX, but it is a lot more fun for sure!

I've stocked up on a bunch of blades, flybars, paddles, booms, knightpins, motors, skids, canopies, and lots and lots of tail rotors.

Steve, turns out both of my servos make the noise, unplug them and the noise stops.

Yes I was definitely having fun until the whole tale section fell apart. Maybe I should order some upgrades from the MIA guy, I can't see paying $2.50 for the tiny piece that holds the tail up unless I get a dozen or so at that price.

Pretty unlucky, never had a drama with the tail motor. The buzzing is normal for these small digital servos.

I hear ya 'bout paying $2.50 for a 1" piece of carbonfiber rod. I went to my LHS and purchased 4 feet of it for $3.99... that is enough to make 48 tail supports at eight cents a pop... much more cost palatable.

I did the same for the tail boom and I am going to do the same for the flybar rod.

Thanks for the advice Steve. I went ahead and ordered more parts from wowhobbies, great customer service btw, helping me out with a new tail motor.

Hopefully I'll be flying again by the weekend, I want so badly to master this little beast.

4#3B

Been flying one of these since last October. I would suggest having some extra motors on hand. Main motors last from a few to ~50 flights, but they're very easy to change. Tail motors last much longer. I'm on my second tail motor but at least my sixth main motor. Wowhobbies.com has been great.

Just got the brushless version of the 4#3b from wowhobbies. Those guys are great. I live in the area so I went to the shop and there they were hovering in the backroom. He also showed me that rocket 4#3c they are producing. It has about 35% more lift power and its about 2grams lighter. They have some supercharged little outrunner they are going to produce for this heli. Pretty cool. They also have an indoor fly event for sub-micro size helis (4G3 is the largest heli allowed) the first Sat of every month. He actually flew the heli before I walked out the door to make it was not DOA. He also told me to have alot of spares on hand. He listed tail motors, main blades and tail rotors at the top of the list.

I got to say, this little thing is a blast to fly around the room. Stayed up all night flying it. I have bounced it off my steel workbench, walls, lamps, etc. and I have yet to have to replace anything. Just the nubs on the front of the skids broke off. Knock on wood...

Fly hard, have fun and take it home in one piece...
