I say fake.

I'm a skeptic until I see video evidence.

In the 2nd picture/ lower half, it appears to be defying gravity.
It looks like it should fall backwards.
--------------------------------------------

edit: maybe not. After closer examination, there is a 'nub' that goes over the top of the tread to keep it from leaning backwards.

I still want to see video.

The pieces it climbs on is designed for this. It locks in place until the operator unlocks it. As McCraig said...the problem would be a blown hose.

If you have ever used a backhoe or even a small excavator with a shovel bucket, there is no question that it MORE than has the power to accomplish the task. It is very easy to pick up most any hydraulicly operated machine with just it's arm(s).

It looks perfectly real to me. The only suspect thing is how close people seem to be standing to or under it in the second picture. It may be telephoto effect, though.

Like Dood says, the second pic is not real. There is no way in hell it would stay there like that.My brother in law and I used to have 3 excavators and even on an incline if you boomed up like that it would try to rock over.

I had a guy unload a wheel hoe off my lowbed and rolled it off the deck and down an overpass slope.Didn't tear it up too bad either.

If you look at the second pic, yes, it looks like it should fall backwards, but if you look a bit more closely, you can see blocks in the tower that are holding the front of the tracks down, so the fulcrum is where the tracks rest on the bottom "tray". Simple lever, and it keeps it from falling while the bucket is moved to the next level.

Like Dood says, the second pic is not real.
Less than a minute after I posted, I edited my post, conceding that it was indeed real.

Yes, I was a skeptic at first, but my skepticism lasted all of about a minute.

There is just no possible way that it could stay up there in that pic.The back end of the machine is a solid steel counter weight, just the front 1/4 of the tracks are on the tower.Even if the tracks were on the tower close to the center of the super structure of the machine, with the boom up like that at that angle it would still be tough. The machine will have enough power to pull itself up.

EDIT
you can see blocks in the tower that are holding the front of the tracks down
I didn't see those blocks,so I would say yes now

It's leverage, Broken. There are "hold-downs" on the front top of the tracks that, well, hold it down.

Most of you lifting power comes from the crowd ram. With that short of a stick and the crowd ram being on the bottom of the boom that machine has more then enough power to do that. Any machine that is setup like that can do it. There's always some thing like that going on at equipment shows that I attend. Yes it does take skill and some big wavos
