Hey guys

I have had this heli on my wish list for a while. I currently have a Logo400 flybarless and am toying with the idea of swapping the electronics suite over to a protos and buying another motor with a better suited Kv. There is no way I am going back to flybars though lol

I have seen a few modded diy heads on the forums. Any sign of a conversion kit from MSH or anyone else for that matter?

Have any of you lived with the Logo and the Protos and have any observations on which you prefer and why. (fan boys welcome ) I know the 400 is a bit on the heavy side.

How are you guys finding the single belt setup - any issues?

Regards

Fergus

^^^^^^^^^That was what I was going to say. Just use the Gaui head and roll with it! It is cheap enough to invest in right now until Corrado come out with an MSH branded one .........Ron

I don't think MSH is going to make a flybarless head (based on my discussions with Corrado). The stock head is so easy to convert. Now, a little kit with the odds and ends to make it happen I could see. But after looking at Corrado's conversion at IRCHA, really, anyone can do it...

I'll see if Corrado has a parts list...

Thanks Guys.

Anyone with info on whats needed to convert the stock head? A link will do as i'm sure its posted somewhere. I don't think I would go for the Gaui option myself.

What did Corrado use to extend the ball on the main grips?

Was there any further reinforcement on the grips for the extension?

I would agree that the stock head lends itself well to the conversion, however it doesn't look as clean as it should. Especially MSH/Protos clean IMO.

My suggestions FWIW:

Shorten the overall head by removing the unneeded flybar hole, and integrating a swash driver which would also eliminate the washout hub. Thus shortening the overall height, and giving the heli the low profile look. Doing so with a very clean and finished appearance.

Come out with either MSH approved blade grip ball extensions or FBL main grips with molded plastic extensions.

Ok I'm done dreaming, just a little OCD.

Thanks for the link. The UNI grips look good. After some reading I think using the stock grips will work fine. It is also the cheapest option.

My next question is on using a grub screw in the washout base to make it a swashdriver. Anyone had one slip? Would the mikado driver fit the Protos. What about the ball link diameter to the swashplate. Can the mikado links be sized to fit the MSH balls?

Yep stock grips work, Corrado used a couple bearings and longer screw (10-12mm) to move the ball (Hirobo) and link away from the grip. A grub screw through the washout locks it to the main shaft...

And when I asked about the flybarless head again this week, they are now thinking about it, but no ETA...

Thanks for the info.

Anyone got a close up pic of an adapted blade grip they could share?

I know the protos comes with a ball link sizing tool. Are the balls a unique size or is it to do with the design of the links?

Just a few more questions to tie this up.

Are the stock mixer balls hollow for a bolt to pass through (if so what OD bolt) or have they a threaded standoff?

Also what gap should be set between the ball and blade grip?

What servo arm length works best for flybarless?

Sorry for all the questions. I don't have a kit yet to examine.

Regards

Fergus

Didn't get that info last time I talked with Corrado.

I'll ask if he doesn't reply sooner here...

I need to know as well as I'm going to get a bunch of Gyrobot 700's here....

Yep the main concern I had was not getting a straight shot down to the swash (zero delta). Glad to see it won't be a problem

The issue I have with the logo400 is weight. The only way around it was 2500 packs and short flight times. I have some evolite 3200's which I hope would work in the protos and give better performance given the lower all up weight.

Fergus,

On Corrado's machine, the center of the ball is ~8.5mm from the grip. It is spaced by a couple 2mm ID bearings and a 12mm bolt.

Corrado sent me a picture, but it's so blurry it's not worth posting.

The servo arms are completely left as stock.

HTH,
-P

Do the CNC grips from Infinity Hobby have the same placement of bearings and dampeners or are they different?
Are the CNC grips a plug and play fit?

@audio131
Do you mean that the GAUI extensions from the 8mm FES head fit the CNC grips?

Whats the clearance between the balls on the CNC grips with extension?

Do the balls from the GAU extensions and the swash driver fit the MSH balls?

Thanks
Martin

Do the balls from the Protos swashplate fit the swashdriver links?
