If MA crash parts were cheaper, say getting closer to align parts, would you be more inclined to fly your MA machines? Also decent stock canopies that are finished and have some paint on them?

mainly talking about gears, shafts, booms, boom supports, frames, the basic crash bits

any comments?

Phil,

Mate, the easy answer is that if I could obtain MA spares for the same price, and availability, as Align ones then of course I would fly my 15s Ion-x’ s a bit more and a bit harder.

I guess that if we could all fly MA heli's that were the same price as Algin’s there would not be much of a contest either imop.

My main concern is that if 3rd parties offer cheaper MA spares then MA itself may get into trouble, since I believe that spares are a pretty important part of the overall heli business plan.

So, it's actually a pretty hard question to answer imop.

Cheers,
TomC

MA Spares

With the exception of the new shrink fit fans offered by Maryland Machine I have yet to see an aftermarket MA part that was worth a crap.
The unfortunate fact of life is that it takes more time and money to make something well.

I LOVE my Align 600 and it flies great despite the fact that the quality of the parts is no where near that of an MA or Robbe machine. However, Align has struck a great balance of price and ADEQUATE quality. I see my Stratus as a Ferrari, with the associated parts cost, etc.
My Align 600 is sort of a Subaru WRX. Almost as much fun but no prestige and the attention to detail is not as evident.

I really dont care what anyone says but look at this order, take into concideration how small the items are, not even major items, and look how it add's up.

You ask if MA prices where as cheap as align would people fly them more and give align a run for their money.

based on this post of mine what do you think????

I would be a betting man and say the true cost of the items I bought are less than 20 bucks, or very close to it.

For sure! Of course if they were cheaper, more hobby shops would stock them as well!

You'd have to do more than offer cheap spares. You'd also have to get the design simple enough that the machine could be repaired quickly at the field or within an evening on your workbench.

I agree with Inspector Fuzz.
I agree as well.

The thing is, IF you REALLY like Align helicopters, then fly Align helicopters. If you appriciate the quality, fit and finish of MA, then fly MA just don't expect it to be priced like Align. You get what you pay for in this world people.

please note that I own both.

I see it this way .

I watched the "For Sell" postings, their was one thing in common " what wasn't for sale ". Then when I spotted what I was interested in, they always seem to hold a pretty good value even with some time on them.

I wanted a manufacture who'd been around the longest - worried about parts availability.

Studied why all the bearings, and the over engineering, figured it had something to do with Up - time and reliability.

Then I examined the one or the part engineering the other's copied.

I also wanted a USA based company who held their quality assurance standards.

Man I'd like to get a hot little thirty with all metal bearing blocks, " every where " along with a carbon frame, and a miniture Tempest head.

ok to those that answered the question cheers,

guess those that talked about why they own MAs didnt quite get the point.

just to recap, would people buy aftermarket parts to fix their helis if they existed, at a much better price if quality is fine?

Or would you only consider MA parts?

To answer your question, yes, I would and have. I bought a heat shrink fan from Maryland Machine and it is great. It actually cost more than the stock MA fan, though.
Even at the price it is, a machinist friend looked at it and said the guy was making little if any profit on them.

It is very difficult to make quality stuff for cheap.

I think that depends alot on the individual
If you aren't able to easily afford to maintain it maybe you could choose something more affordable.
For myself I use aftermarket parts on my 450 because of my budget
but if I could afford the real deal I would buy stock replacements.

Kind of like putting cheap tires on an expensive car

I would definitely buy after-market parts, especially if the quality was there. I also have a Maryland fan, and it is working really well for me.

With regret I am going to sell my Stratus to replace with a 700. I want to compete in a couple of competitions soon and the stratus will eat all the extreme moves for breakfast but in the back of my mind flying the heli is probably holding me back because of the cost of crashing!. Xcells are not well supported in Europe - but why would they need to be. Selling these helis in the US probably outweighs all the revenue brought in by them from selling around the world put together. Was thinking of getting the vibe 50 but I wonder if the heli flies £100 better than the trex 600 pro - (I doubt it) because that's the price difference. Have been a loyal fan of raptors for the past four years but TT have nothing to offer in the near future. Will still fly my Raptor V2 and get the trex pro. I was going to wait for the new xcell 50 but I don't think it will materialise within the next 6 months.

what if ma made the 600 and sold it, how many people would complain about the cheap quality of it, but scence it is made in Tiwan people just accept it and like it.
I think ma is stuck in a position to make quality helis.

MA stuck in doing quality, but that quality is why align is selling so fast, I have seen video's over and over on what the aling is doing and how it fly's.

Sorry but when it comes to quality, yes I like, but not for a hobby like this, people want to fly like the pro's, but are affraid of cost of doing so.

Would I buy any parts that where cheaper than MA well thats a dumb question, most would.

To fly freely and not worry abut crashing, is the only way to get better, and fly like the pro's.

I like the way the MINAIR fly but with the advances Align is making and Align's ease of repair Minair has to really try to keep up. I still like the 4 Extremes and Stratus's but look at the classifieds. They are giving the Extremes away.
