Okay guys...This is for those who knows cars inside and outside.
This is the question?..Have a 2000 Solara 2 DR V6. Engine light illuminated. Replaced 2 Oxygen sensors already. Light still up. Did all the maintenance that i could think of but to no luck. Car runs great. Only has 68,000 miles. Am i missing something?..Appreciate the time.

Simple take it in and have a tech hook up a scanner to it and find out what is wrong. That is why they have the scanners for to get the engine codes so it can be fixed.

get someone who has a code reader for your car and they can clear it. you can purchase these things from aftermarket companies.there isnt anything wrong other than it needs to be reset.

Just take to a place like autozone or buy the scanner yourself. You can get a basic model for $100 and it just plugs into the obd2 port. More than likely you've got more problems but probably nothing too serious. Most of my cars have cel's but that's what happens with forced induction.

Wow..I never thought about the reset thing..it was hooked up to scanner before i replace the sensor since the code saying so..But that didnt fix the problem. A lot of useful pointers. Thanks..I try Blademan's point first see if that will do it. I also thought about the brain, but that didnt cameout on initial scan. Will up date..thanks

it ain't broke it's a toyota. take it to a-zone, advance, o'rielly's or whoever is your local autoparts discounter and have them check the codes and reset it. if it comes back after a couple engine warm-ups go back and have them check it again.

Blademan, sir, i was hoping it works but sorry it didnt. I'll just take it back to Autozone tom. see what they have to say..Dealer is my last result. None of my vehicle visit any dealership for anything not unless its scheduled maintenance. I will find the problem oneway or another. I like working on cars its like working on my heli's. Its a man thing...

I bought an OBDII reader a couple of years ago on sale at Harbor Freight. It was less than $40, which considering most shops charge at least $75 "diagnostic fee" for just hooking up to their scanner is a really good deal!

Get the codes pulled and post them.Do not just throw parts at it based on a code either.OBDII just so you understand deals strictly with emissions and is what sets of you mil light. Many people get a mil set simply because they havent tightened up their gas cap enough and the pressure is effecting the purge system.YOu could also have a bad EGR system or AIR system.

Also so you know, yes reseting the system will remove the code, but not the symptom usually after 2 drive cycles the mil will again set. Also when you reset you need to drive the car 10-20 miles to let your ecm relearn its fuel trims and operating perameters. After a reset they usually run like crap for this period.

As for O2 sensors they are usually good for 80-100000 miles very little will make them go bad(coolant and some additives will kill them fast)

So go get the codes pulled write them down and post them.

In general, sure, but not always the case. I had two go bad on my car before 60,000 miles. Havent had another problem though and I have almost 120,000 on it.

Stupidity can be cured. Ignorance is for life!

you can also search most of the codes on the internet

when I had my VW Jetta, I found Edmunds.com was an excellent resource for troubleshooting

I do remember that even after replacing my sensor (thats what the error code was), I still had to use the code reader to clear the code, and turn the cel light off

bought my reader on fleabay, was less that $30
