Sweet! Looking forward to comparing the N5 design to the new Miniature Aircraft 50 which is due out as well.

I wonder if the 3DX flybarless head for the 600N will fit the N5. That would be sweet since I will already have one.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter

If I own an N5, certainly it will not be for the sexy canopy look. Otherwise that would be one very expensive canopy. The canopy is a plus, and also I'm interested in the ingenuity of the hardware, strength, and how it performs in the air.

Who wants some REAL hype?

DON'T BUY A VIBE 50!!!

I saw THE N5 today. First sunny day in GA this year and Matt brought it out to the field. It was about 75% complete: complete frame, partial head, tail unit (no boom, no canopy).

Rest assured, it is a miniaturized N9. The frames look very similar - and yes, it is thin like the N9. Cross braces, like the N9, connect the two G10 sides, but they are a smoother "X" as opposed to the N9's. CnC bearing blocks on upper and lower (though Matt says production may or may not be plastic) main shaft supports look really nice.

The head consisted of the main T-block, flybar cage and flybar. Matt said the swash, washout and grips were at home. 4mm flybar. Head button like the N9. He said the grips are (or will be) plastic main and tail, but reinforced compared to the latest N9 (main) plastic grips - ie stronger.

The tail unit is belt driven. G10 framed around stock N9 boom blocks. Apparently Matt has been able to incorporate some stock (N9) parts where able - thereby reducing cost. Sorry, I was mostly looking at the frames, but the tail unit looks nice.

75% complete = Matt is waiting on several parts from HK, namely the CnC pulley that will attach the belt to the main shaft. The belt will run from the main shaft pulley between two pusher-pulleys on either side (not the best description...) , then into the boom and the tail unit.

All frame and head metal will be "chrome" - aluminum with a clear anodization.

Last thing I'll say was that we put it between my T-Rex 600 and N9 and it was a good bit larger than the 600 and only a bit smaller than the N9. Its a good looking heli!

No pics because there is significant innovation in certain areas I have not (and was asked not to) described. We discussed the new Vibe 50 clone (TS) and how he did not want certain "competitors" to get a head start on the N5. Matt told me to describe it to y'all (minus certain areas). Unfortunately, he also said, because of above, pics may not be available until just before release.

Should be flying next week (or so...).

Why a belt drive tail I can't believe they would go with a belt on such a high caliber heli.
