i know there has been a couple of threads already about the thrust bearings but none i could find to answer my questions. i bought my beam used so i dont have the instructions and i didnt build it from new so i have some questions(i checked out the manual on-line). my beam has the thrust bearing grips and i needed to first change the spindle/feather shaft. the new shafts i bought came with 4 shafts and some nuts and spacers. my question is what to do with
the the spacers? it came with two kinds, one has a beveled edge on one side and flat on the other. the other kind is beveled on both sides??
i would assume that the single beveled or coned edge goes between
the grip and the head block, coned side towards the bearing in the grip. what is the double coned/beveled spacer for?? does it go inside the grip between the two diffrent sized bearings??
i also notice that the new feathering shafts are longer than the one that i took out? could the old one i have be wrong and maybe the previous owner had the non-thrusted shaft installed??
thanks for any help!!

Have you looked at the Finless videos? He covers it pretty well. All of his Beam build videos are at this link.

My head came assembled from the factory and I haven't taken it apart yet so I'll watch the video when that time comes.

Go to about 10:10 of the headgrips.wmv video and you'll see that the spacers go beveled side in and contact the "o" ring dampeners. The tiny instruction sheet that comes in the feathering shaft package shows this as well.
