I have a stock Raptor 50SE with a set of fiberglass blades. I do mild 3d maneuvers. 3 times directly after some consecutive rolls of flips the heli would start to wobble violently. I would hit throttlehold, Auto down, catch my breath, check the ship for any loose parts but everything would look fine.

Any idea of what is causing this? I was told it might be the flap dampers.

I'm using "the reds" that came with the kit.

What should I be looking for with the paddle set screws?

Take one blade off and spin the spindle with a wrench on the spindle bolt. If the other blade moves up/down then the spindle is bent. Quite possible that the spindle got bent in one of those violent shakes.

Otherwise is sounds like there may be some slop in the controls somewhere. I'll track that down by grabbing both blades at the grips and gently rotate both blades looking for the slop between the servos and the blade grips.

Definitely replace the rubber dampers. Do they have lube on them? Dry dampers will cause problems.

What headspeed are you running?

Dampeners need to be replaced ocassionally. Also TT had a bad batch of red dampeners get out about 6 months ago that were going bad in 3 or 4 flights.

Did it go out of track or just wobble?

I don't remember if they are lubed or not I have not flown in maybe 2 or 3 years.

My head speed is in the neighborhood of 1800 if I can recall correctly.

When it wobbled the blades would still track perfectly (as far as I could tell).

I'll bet they are dry then - replace them and put some silicone lube on the spindle when you put it in should really help out. Did you replace ALL the fuel lines yet? especially in the fuel tanks? Also I'd clean and lube the mainshaft where the swashplate and washout base slide and the tail shaft where the fork slides. I find those get sticky after sitting for a while.

I'm having trouble taking the blades grips off. I believe I must

A. Remove the blades.
B. Remove the bolt at both ends of the spindle to remove the grips.

Well I'm having trouble removing the bolts. I used two wrenches to keep the spindle from spinning so I can remove one of the bolts. But how do I get the other one out when the spindle just spins and there is nothing to keep it from spinning?

Once you one bolt removed, the spindle will push out from that side. When you come to re-assemble, replace the normal bolt with a grub screw. This keeps the new grease out of the threads.

If the remaining bolt is secure there is no need to remove, otherwise place the spindle in a vice to remove the last bolt.

When all re-assembled, remove the grub screw, loctite the bolt and replace.

What is a safe way of removing the blade grip that has had the spindle bolt removed? I was thinking about using a large flathead to pry the blade grip away from the hub but I don’t want to damage anything.

Unless you have made a banana shape out of the spindle, the grip just pulls off, when you have taken the spindle bolt out.
