Last week when I ran my heli on the ground with no blades, the OPTO 90A ESC and Scorpion 4035 motor were pulling almost 5A at 1900 RPM.

I took it to the field today and the motor had the shakes! I tried a different battery... the motor was still stuttering, I took the blades off and had the same problem! I went as far as taking the main gear out to run the motor on its own and it just would not spool-up! Yet it worked the other day the fist time I ran it!

I even disconnected the data logger and RPM sensor just in case that was causing a problem. The motor power connections were good.

Another weekend of lost flying.

What ESC is everyone using on their electric 90’s? I’m tempted to buy a Power Jazz but wow they’re expensive…but then the cheap ESC I used doesn’t work at all!

I run Jive 80+HV in all my .90 sized electrics.
Governor beats PowerJazz with 10% better performance at least.

+ built in BEC is good enough for 3 x 8717 with VBar.

Great!

Are you running the SBEC at 6V? If so are you using a regulator for the tail?

How many amps are your motors pulling with what pitch range and flying style? What Motors are you using as well please?!

I can see in your gallery you've made an Evant with Scorpion 4035 either 500 or 560? (Could be a 630 with the old case)? Is that what you're referring to?

Im running the BEC at 6.0v with a regular stepdown on tailservo.

I use VBar, peaking about 110-120 amps or so with 12s1p 4500 packs.
Pitchrange is +-13.5 (depending a little on what blades I run, more on CY 710 SB then Maniac 703)

Best motor options you have:

Scorpion: HK4035-500 or -560, I recommend -500, good power and maingear will hold

Kontronik: Pyro 30-12 "rollsroyce" but expensive too.

We have the same blades and motors!

You're peaking 120A on the 80A Jive ESC? !!!

How many teeth does your Evant main gear have?
Mines 93T and Mod #1.

Jive 80+ with the capital +, its rating with heatsink is 150 amps, CONT! not peaks, overcurrent shutdown dont happen until you reach 230amp peak!

99T maingear on the E-Aurora, 93T main, 10T pinion & -500kv works good, Ive flown that for a few hundred flights on my E-stratus.

Is that a Stratus main gear or a Raptor main gear in your Stratus?

Where did you find out 150A Continuous for the Jive!!!

Stratus maingear (Mod 1.0).

Have discussed at length with Kontronik direct when we had overcurrent issues in the beginning with some motors (Neu, Plettenberg) and also other issues which turned out to be bad connectors.

On their site it says "A good cooling allows up to double performance", but they said 150 when I talked to them, enough for me anyway.

Google translated.
"Also new is the optimum cooling plate with the components connected. This makes for a very good heat dissipation and enables the easy implementation of additional refrigeration. By cultivating an air-or water-cooling can be achieved through this plate speed significantly. The designation means 80 + So: at least 80A. A good cooling allows up to double performance."

Can anyone take a square-on photo of thier Jive 80 HV ESC for me please? I want to use the photo as a texture on a CAD model of the ESC to include in my helicopter model! Thanks.
