my father claims to have flown an Aeronca Champ backwards down the length of North Central Airport in Rhode Island in a stiff wind. I believe it too.
I did the same thing in the early nineties when I took my PPL. We had 70kts wind @ 3000ft, and I was to learn the winds impact on flight. It was a good day for that lesson, and after the lesson was complete we climbed to 3000fet and took full flaps and flew at abot 50-55kts with the wind in the nose for about 15minutes. We started above a village and went backwards crossing a big highway...I guess we moved backwards about 5-6 kilometers. I´d like to se the same thing from down below sometime.

Some of the tricks I´d rahter se from below than participating in, for example a 42 ship heli formation we did at hour heli base 40th annuversity. Still dont know how it looked from ground.

All of my father's pictures of the Widgeons he worked on are on film only. I found this one of the prototype "Magnum" Widgeon. It has since changed hands since my father was involved with this particular one but it's still got the same TSIO-540 Lycomings on it.

I'll try to find more. The last one my father did won Grand Champion Seaplane at Oshkosh and some type of award for workmanship, maybe a Gold Lindy?

This is a head on picture of N3N before it was sold. N3N is actually a Widgeon built by the French under license called a SCAN (pronounced SKAHN)

Stupidity can be cured. Ignorance is for life!

For decades I've enjoyed a recurring daydream about a Catalina PBY-5A decked out RV Style for a 2-year, 'round the world vacation. Still dreamin' . . .
