I've done something similar. Found if I turn the SK 90, slide it to the back of the tray with the servo connector side to the rear, I can then run the wires down between the opening behind the tray and main frame area. Got it drying now. Looks like this will be good to go.

Never thought about it before, but there's a reason the front tray is angled down on top. Canopy gets pretty close at the end of the tray with the straight side up.

Thanks for this thread... I have been thinking about the skookum for my 600NP.... I will be watching closely, any chance of a picture of the new mounting location since the switch of positions??

I sold another one to Terrafirma...... wife wants to know where the money's at!!!!

I'm going with this setup. Nothings touching except for one wire running from the rx to the sk. There's no pressure on it, so hopefully it won't cause any problems. It's a pretty tight fit up front.

Have everything hooked up, hopefully correctly, so gonna try firing it up and do some initial programming before I build the rest of the heli.

Ok, this is going like crap.

It seems I won't be able to use the reactor setup. No power gets to the rx.

(edit, it's because I had the leads backwards into the SK, so it does work as originally hoped.)

(edit, the following is me being stupid again, but I'll leave it so you know what happens when a batt is low on voltage)

So, moving on. I disconnected everything from the reactor. Set radio per instructions, hooked up usb cord, switch to setup mode, connected batt, have green flashing light, started software, comes on as connected, says it received data from gyro, then goes immediately to disconnected.

So, the only way I can connect to it is with the radio off, then it stays connected. Soon as I turn the radio on, it disconnects.

So, with the radio off, connected light on, I select swash as 120, then it says to make sure "mixing location" is set to "in gyro", there is no such selection that I can find.

Then you go to the control tab and it tells you to center all your trims on the tx and center the cyclic stick. Then send setup to the gyro. I can't even connect with the tx on and from the description of this step, I'm guessing it's supposed to be on, I'm assuming something isn't going right here

This is compatible with futaba 2.4 right?

I believe the reactor should be between the rx and the sk not between the servos and sk. I do not use sk so just check input voltage.

Duke thanks, your right, batt voltage was dropping with the tx on.

My goof.

That makes sense with the reactor. I was hoping to not pull all the amps through the SK, I hope its stout enough. I'll rewire it.

Should be fine, 3 leads from reactor and 3 servo out, it's not like an rx with only 1 power lead in. Good luck.

I've edited this post for some of the programming that I had started.

For programming see FBL's post below for links to his site which contains step by step instructions. He takes a different approach to the manual, using the software vs the manual using your radio. I thought some of the Futaba manuals were bad. This manual seems somewhat dated?

Couple of stress points. Use a freshly charged battery. Whenever you make changes make sure to save them to the gyro unit. You can use the F1 key as a quick save step.

Picks below show the usb connection to the gyro unit. It's the small black cord attached to the end of the unit. Kind of blends in and is somewhat hard to see at first.

Rapidity,

I would suggest you trying to install the reactor between SK 360 and servos and please visit my site for a quick set up reference agreed by Skookum

Thanks for the links.

I did have the reactor between the sk and the servos. It didn't power my rx. Did you see anything hooked up wrong? I'd like to run it that way.

It was simple to wire with the AR7100R , the SK360 wires have 3/4" clearance from the canopy.

Dave you inspired me to go back and I found the problem. Leads into the SK were backwards, neg into signal, so it does work running the servos off the reactor powerbus.

I should rename this thread to the "trials and tribulations" or how to "setup for dummies". Anyway I'll be switching it back. Thanks.

I got 5 flights on it before weather shut me down for the season. Just followed the software setup that FBL linked to in previous post. Mikado conversion head seemed to work well. Didn't really get a chance to do much with it yet. Only thing with mounting SK where I did is you can't see it when initializing. I assume if it's making the corrections after start up, dampening the head, that its initialized correctly, as you won't be able to see the initialization lights. Plus to make adjustments you'll have to pull the canopy every time to gain access. Something to think about.

I thought of mounting it on the tail for access ,maybe I will for that reason. Any body see a problem mounting it there? Which way do you point the sticker? Back toward the tail?

I pull the canopy to make software adjustments , I drilled a hole in the side of the canopy to see the green light ..... i can live with that

You can set the 360 in any direction, just has to be level. You then go into the software and theres a tab where you can set the gyro to match the way you have it mounted. If the sticker is facing forward you don't have to change the software.

A hole in my new, unflown canopy! Might do that.

The reason I mounted up front is you'll end up with a bunch of long wire runs with it mounted in back. I think it's a little cleaner installation.
