RAK,
As a Compass field rep I believe you may be overstepping the posting rules by suggesting what is or is not a best 90.

I don't think he's overstepping the rules. He flat out said that he had other 90's that he liked. He was just stating what his next 90 would be.

fr8brkr,

I did not state which one was best, only that, if I get another .90 sized machine, it will be an Odin (based on my experience with the Knight 3D and the Atom).

I think I have the right to express an opinion with regard to what machines I like and do not like, or might purchase in the future.

I do not believe that Mark Ryder will have a problem with what I have said, but I am sure that he will let me know if he does.

My Field Rep status is posted at the end of my signature, so that people that might need assistance with Compass products can contact me (and they do via PM).

My apologies to the person who started this thread, for what has, unfortunately turned into a, hopefully brief, political digression.

That was not my intent.

Emag,

Thank you-You are definitely one of the good guys.

Best 90, for what????

It would be best if the original poster said what kind of flying and budget in mind, although, with the cost of components the heli kit is no longer a huge factor like it used to be.

From what I have seen through the 5 years of fun flys and competition.

Best 3D heli, MA Stratus, Avant Aurora, Hirobo Turbulence
(honorable mention to the MA 90, but no one can get those)
the N9, Vibe90 are not far behind.

Best 3d heli for the money: unarguably, the darn TRex700, period
Honorable mention, Hirobo Freya Evo 90 and Raptor 90s

Best Precision Aerobatics heli: Caliber 90, Hirobo Eagles, JR Sylphide.

Best Precision Aerobatics heli for the Money, Freya Evo90 which also takes my vote for best dual purpose heli.

With the recent avalanche of cheap Align products, people have forgotten of all the other good brands and helicopters that exist.
Sorry that I can’t comment on the Compass Odin, but if is any like the Knight50, one of the best 50s I ever flown, the 90 should be a contender.

Like all hobbies and interest, there are fads that come and go. Folk who "got to have one of those" that everyone has, and the folks to go the extra mile because they don’t want to fly the same bellybutton or clone the guy next door flies.

There is a chopper out there for everyone. Looks, pride of ownership, FUN factor, reliability and cost are the biggest attributes, and they weight in differently to every individual.

Back when I started there was Schlutter and a few others, if you dared.

Having all these choices today is great. This is one of the best times in RC helicopter from the consumer standpoint.
enjoy it

I have had or have maintained the following 90's and prefer working on and flying the trex700N. Flying style = stickbanging 3D

MA Stratus
MA Fury Extreme
JR Vibe
JR Vigor CS
Blitz Avro
Freya Evo
Freya X-spec
Raptor 90 STD
Raptor 90 SE
Raptor 90 with Quick UK V-max mod
Avant EFX with Prog. Head
Synergy N9

The best built heli and nicest to just stare at out of all of them was the Avro

If that is not a RESOUNDING 700N endorsement (based on your list), I don't know what is...

The vibe is a really nice heli. Parts are just expensive and I like a heli with the fuel tank out back. Just personal experence is all. You could win the XFC with any of them

Well I guess I will stick my neck out and say Hirobo Freya series, The true fuel and fly bird. Unless your meeting Mother Earth at high rates of speed you have very little maintenance (airframe) to perform. No, they are not the lightest/snappiest 3D machine but the are very precise/stable bird and only do what they are told. The quality and customer service are second to none.

I don’t own a 700, but seen enough of then from friends to be objective. I have worked and setup and flown several Vigor and Vibe 90s. I don’t have to tell you about the JR quality and how good the Vibes fly.

TREX700 advantages in comparison.

Much Lower part count.
Easy to build.
Weight, very light heli.
Parts price, Align cheap, I mean that in a good way.
Flying, fast, responsive, (not twitchy) predicable.

Downside:
Overall quality is average. Had some issues with bearings, main gears, a few other minor metal parts, and lots of problems with the metal balls and ball links. On the last one, I have seen on pros premature ball wear after a couple dozen flights. Many other documented cases about the ball links cracking or breaking in flight.
I also have a friend in KY with over 7 gallons on his 700 with no wear. If I was to get one, I would replace all the balls and ball links with an upgrade kit that Ron's Heliproz sells for them:
http://www.ronlund.com/Merchant2/me...Code=QUKTX7C-07

other than that, this helicopter has more people talking about how fun it is to fly, than I ever heard. Will it fly miles better than a Vibe90 to justify getting one? I doubt that. Honestly I cant make that statement since I have not flown one yet.

For what it is worth, I have flown one of the new MA 90s and it was surreal. The parts count on that is also very low, and the quality top notch, but I am talking about an unicorn, no one knows when they will hit the streets.
Also the new Vibe 90SG promises to be a killer too

MoneyPitVictim,

could you get more precise about that "surrealism"?
I mean I am also addicted by that new MA 90 but I hadn`t the chance to fly it.
Therefore me and maybe some others here would appreciate some more words/comments to its flight characteristics compared with other 90`s.

Thanku

Michael
