I consider myself proficient autoing the 600N, what can I expect with the 500? Anything I need to do different?

The 500 autos nothing like a 600 at all, in fact I argue the 500 struggles to auto much like a 450.

The 500 IMO autos just fine. I've done a few inverted autos with it too. It's no 90 size machine with 710's though.

You just have to get used to the flare and stick once method. You can't really stretch the autos like a 50 size machine.

I have the torque tube on my 500 and the blades carry lots of energy at the bottom of the auto

Having the right blades makes all the difference. I find that Mavrikk G5 Pro 430s auto very well.

It does pretty good. I have the belt set up and use the align blades. I auto it a good bit and have never messed anything up doing it. A few close calls but that is it. I would wait until you get a day with a good consistent breeze. Maybe 10 mph. It will give you a bit more hang time. With pretty stiff dampening if the head starts to wobble on descent, just add a little bit more negative pitch.

I'm running the belt and Align blades. Mine autos fine...much better than the 450 but not as good as the 600N.

I agree, autos better than the 450 but not as well as the 600. The torque tube helps a little. I started with the belt then installed the torque tube so I've experienced it both ways.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

The 500 autos very well IMO. Definately not like a 50 or 90, but much better than a 450.

The Align 425D blades are supposed to auto better than the other Align blades. I think with the right blade, the 500 auto's respectably.

Imagine the scenario that a pilot experiences motor power loss at 100 feet with a 450 or a 500 and has NO CHOICE but to auto in (even an unskilled pilot is going to have no choice but to try). They'll be picking up pieces of the 450 and it weighs a heck of a lot less. Now if it were a 600 they'd be bringing it down inverted.

Agree with what others have said. It autos but no stretch in the flare. Once you flare put it down and thats it. Its does come down fast.
