I've read what others had to say...and I just wanted to say that I havent seen a better quality / price ratio than my Futaba 10C. I've heard about problem using either systems and I've also heard great things about either systems. Therefore for me it would be a personal choice.

I have been 20 some odd years with Futaba. Switched to DX7 and have absolutely loved it. I have been converted for about 2 years now. I would like the JR 9303 2.4 but I just haven't needed the upgrade yet.

I believe all the 2.4 systems are good, sure beats having some knuckle head turn his radio on and crashing your pride and joy. That alone is reason enough for me.

I am a Heli addict!!!

Well I have to say that customer service is an important part of any systems ownership. We all want great back up when things go pear shaped. Warrantee periods sure seam to be longer in the US too.
It has to be said that equipment prices do tend to be rather high here in the UK compared to the US. If it wasn't for UK output regulations and CE approval, I think we'd all be importing systems from outside the UK.
I do agree that JR/Spectrum does have 'ModelMatch' & 'ServoSync' which is a great features that Futaba doesn't have. Futaba are also yet to produce a dedicated 2.4GHz transmitter like JR. The 2.4GHz modules in my opinion sure looks ugly with the 35MHZ ariel as well. I guess it allows for a part transition to 2.4GHZ when you have alreadt invested in a lot of 35/72MHZ gear ?
Futaba systems do have a software advantage over JR/Spektrum in that you can download updates which is sensible. I like the magnesium bodies on some of the JR transmitters over the plastic of Futaba.
I've been looking through the JR 12X manual and it does show a 'throttle hold delay' feature as the Futaba system.
A well written manual is always useful when learning to program a new system and JR/Spektrum sure does appear to be a lot more straight forward to understand.
I was interested to read that 'Spektrum/JR played with FSST technology before settling on DSM', thanks Heli_jon. That's gotta tell you something.
Nobody has said yet if they have noticed any difference in the 'feel' between brands. I puchased a JR X2610 for use on my sim and thought it had a far better feel on the gimbles than my Futaba 9CHP.
Keep the feedback rolling in guys.
Mike(UK).

I like the JR/Spektrum flight log that lets you see what the RX is seeing. The RX already stores the data so you can either plug the flight log in at the end of a flight or just leave it on the aircraft. It is just a display for the data. It shows any fades on each antenna, frame loses, and holds.

Been flying a Futaba 7C FASST for about a year with no trouble at all.

I sent my 7C 72mhz in the Service Center last year. It was 4 years old. Something failed in the electronics. They fixed the problem, replaced the antennae (it was bent a little), replaced the case (it had a spot on it where a soldering iron touched it). I sent it off on a Monday and had it back by the weekend. Charged me $40 for it all.

best of both worlds, futaba 12fg with spektrum module. Spektrum has a superior choice of receivers and is less prone to problems especially with heat.

I actually found the jr manual for the 9303 a little confusing. When I got the 12fgh, I found that manual not to be well written either as they person who wrote it assumes you know certain terms and abbreviations. I switched from a 6ex which had very simple programming, so I didn't come across some of the nomenclature in the simple manual. But when I did learn the 12fgh, it helped me understand the manual for the 9303 better. Both systems are great systems and you can't go wrong with either system. I do think they should write a clearer manual.

Man, I miss the eighties.

Spektrum/JR X9303, I used it for a year in Iraq, and never had a glitch. That is unbelievable in a place that millions of radio signals flying around. Plus model match is awesome, no more worrying if you have it set to the right aircraft.

Good ol' DX7, never had an issue with it. Had a 12X nice radio but I actually prefer the 7 and it does all I need to do to be honest.

I started with Futaba (FF7) many years ago but changed to JR because of their excellent small receivers. The Futaba support is also not so hot locally and prices are high.

I bought a DSX9 early this year and have ported some of my aircraft and helis across from my 9xII. I've already bought 6 DSM2 receivers this year. The system has worked wonderfully and I have not had a single problem from the 9 & 7 channel receivers to the little park flyer 6100.

We bought a DX7 for our school MFC recently and that worked fine as a master with the DSX9 as the pupil buddy box. It took no time at all to set up and get working!

I'm sure the Futaba system works fine, but for me, JR/Spectrum all the way!

putting a spektrum module in a futaba 14mz yields TERRIBLE results and the amount of interaction has to be seen to be believed.

i assume the 12fg will be the same as it's the same module it uses so i would completely avoid that.

there is 2 guys in my club with a 9zap fasst and a 9zap spektrum respectively. the fasst one just works better and it clear to see.

basically if you have futaba stick to fasst modules and vice versa.

cheers

Well so far it appears that JR/Spektrum is the system of choice. This could just be down to more people have a DX7 ?
HeliPhil, Could you please give more details about the lock out that encountered ? What TX was this ?
I saw that Spektrum are introducing a DX7se (US). Basically they have increased the resolution from 1024 (std DX7) to 2048. The new Spektrum modules for use in Futaba transmitters that they are introducing sure is a great marketing move. Maybe they will dominate at some point ?
RaptorHeli2, Interesting to read your comments about the 14MZ with a Spektrum module. Can you elaborate please ?
