I have the 500 Graphite with stock Align main blades. When I tighten the main blade bolts as much as possible, the main blades still swing freely back and forth? Is this normal? There's no play between the blades and grips, they just won't hold in place.

The manual says to use spacers for 9mm, not needed for 10mm blades. I think these are 10mm blades.

Thanks.

No, I dont think that is normal, mine is not like that. I would just add the spacers and have fun. Rick

Mine wasn't like that either, use the spacers.

it's not normal use the spacers because you want equal snugness on the blade grips

the only 'Align' blades requiring the spacers are the rebranded rotortechs (black and yellow).

all the white / white and black blades require no spacers.

you can measure the blades with a caliper to verify. either something is wrong with the blades or with your grips. either way i'd be hesitant to throw them in the air until you figure out what's going on.

if it ain't broke, break it.

Here's what I'm talking about

Photo 1 - this is if I overtighten the main bolt. See how the bottom of the blade grip bends up? I get the blade a little bit tight, but I've never had to do this before.

Photo 2 - this is with a washer. I can only fit one in (on the top), not one on the top and bottom).

Photo 3 - this is an overhead view.

Something like this seems pretty simple, I can't imagine that I've done something incorrectly.

Ideas?

as stated above, measure the blades. if they're less than 10mm thick, then you'll need the spacers (and align has some QA issues). if they're 10mm, then you've got defective grips or something else going on.

if it ain't broke, break it.

I just finished building my TRex 500 and noticed the same problem - the white Align main blades do not fit tight enough in the grips. I have to tighten quite a bit to keeps the blades from flopping around.

I measures the gap in the grip and it is 10mm.

I measures the blades and they are both 9.8mm.

The washer to shim the blades is .5mm and will be too think in this application.

I have a set of blades from HK-Parts and they are 10mm and fit perfectly.

What about using a piece of that metal tape?

Oh please don't do that! It's just asking for metal fatigue!

I would just use a 0.5mm washer on one side of the blade to get a better fit. It will be better than bending the metal blade grip. You likely got an irregular set of blades.

We haven't seen Colonel Angus around these parts for years!

Thanks for the feedback everybody. Docjoe - I did just what you suggested (picture 2). There's enough space for one washer (on top), but I can't find a thinner washer to put one on top and bottom.

It fits perfectly with the one washer on top. Think I'm OK with this?

Thanks.

Yes, I'm using spacers on the tops of my blades only (Mavrikk G5s) and there are no problems.
