Like the title states, was flying my new 650L motor in my 600e and after a 5 min flight (flips, tic-tocs,ect...) that was the temp reading I got when I pointed my laser temp gauge INSIDE the vent slits at the bottom of the can. The temp reading on the outside of the can were 145 (bottom half) and a cool 85 degree where the heat sink section is. This was the first flight in which I had pushed her a lil. Previous readings inside the vent holes where in the 105-115 range. BTW, I'm using a 16 tooth helical pinion with the 187tooth helical main, a eMultigov with the HS at 2000 and 2100, Outrage 6S 5000mah bats (preheated to 100 deg), Align 100A ESC, Align 610 servos on 6V.

So my question is, is this normal for the inner parts of the motor to be so hot (I'm thinking not but have to ask), and when we report motor temps we're referring to the outer can temp? BTW, yes the laser temp gauge is working, and the flight was perfect and I would've never known the motor was being pushed so hard.

Dang, that is super hot! I will let you know what temps I get when I push my new T-Rex 600 ESP. I've only done hovers to break in my motor with temp at 110 to 115 on my 650L using an old Align 6s2p 4200 pack, but will do some 3D when the weather gets better in Hawaii. I'll be pushing her with Kong Power and Desire Packs. Will update later on my temps.

Thanks Charlie. In the meanwhile, I'm going to change to a 15 tooth and drop the HS down to 1950 and 2000 and see how the temp goes. The bad part is that this motor really ROCKS when compared to the stock motor but if the temps don't improve dramatically, then I'm gonna have to break down and get a Scorpion.

I hear you man, I will let you know my results when the weather clears and put it to a hard test, by the way I'm using 14tooth with the stock gears. I've used the 600L and 600XL motors on my other T-Rex 600's with a CC 110HV and love the power on the 600XL using TP Extreme V2's. I sure hope this motor will be promising with good temps on the new batteries I have?

If you even remotely liked the power you had with the XL, then you'll be tickled pink with the torque in this one. The bog is almost non-existant. I took off a perfectly good XL to run the 650.

Tic-tocs & such really heat those algn motors up & ive had nothing but trouble with them. Please keep us posted how long this 650L lasts under those conditions.Hope it lasts for 700 flights.

So there is a big difference between the 600xl and the 650l? I am considering one, but didn't know if it was worth it.

So far I put in 3 hard flights in today with my 650L and it had lots of power with a 15 tooth setup. When I was using my Kong Powers I was getting readings of 128 degrees and when I used a friends Thunder Power V2's it went up to 158 and when I was flying this session I could smell the paint burning from my motor. I will do more further testing on this motor and update.

I will push her a little hard if the weather clears as today I wasn't flying so good because I had to rush the flight due to rain coming on all my flights!

This motor has mad power!

missle, I have run a lots of motors with both 6s and 8s and have not had internal temps above 180deg and the motor survived, at 285 you should have had a major meltdown. Does your temp gun need new batteries? Normally, after a few minutes off and at rest the internal temps are usually lower than the case temps by 10-15deg.

Sherman 89, nope the batteries are good. Like I mentioned originally, the temp gauge was reading 140's on the outside when I got the 285 degree reading on the inside. Also, my Align motors always run hotter on the inside (temp gun pointed through vent window on the bottom third of the motor) so maybe that's just a difference in the manufacture.

Charlie, I told you this motor has some GRUNT Now if only we could figure a better to held it keep it's temp down. What part of the motor did you get your readings from? Also, on your next measurement, could you try and get a reading inside the motor (through vent hole)? I'm assuming your running a 6S setup so what HS are you running?

I had the 650L when it first came out , that motor made me move back to Nitro.

I did not think the power was any more than my 600XL .

My motor was the same it got red hot , even fried a 100amp Align ESC using it .

Also my new TP lipos were gettting way too hot , tried 15 and 16 tooth pinions.

I suspect I may have had a faulty motor as this new motor was suppose to run cooler and be easier on bearings.
Think I must have bubbled the grease out of my bearings.

Will let you know how my flying goes today and will do temp checks as soon as I land. I'll take all the readings for motor, esc, and batteries.

The 650L has a very low Kv for 6s. It really needs 8s to make it perform.

Personally I think that the Scorpion is a much better solution to the T600 power problem.

The HK4025-1100 is the one to get but I think they are still on the boat and have not yet arrived in the US. http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catal...025-1100-12n8p/

An alternative is the HK4015-890 with a large pinion for 6s. With that motor you could upgrade to 8s and not have to purchase a new motor.

Is that better power than the 600XL motor?

Meaning the Z-Power

Have you heard any word as to when that Scorpion might be here? I would definitely go for the Scorpion, I have one in my 450, and it's a beast.

Yes the Z30 has done over a year in my 600e with the 100amp esc, it runs cool loads of power. I had 3 align motors all crap and run very hot for the short time. Head speed if remember correctly is 2400 but it has been such a long time since i changed anything i can't remember. I just fly it without worrying about cooking anything.
