I am having issues with this thing. When I turn it on the terminals are at 13.8 volts. Just as soon as I hook up anything to it, it drops to about 2 volts. Any load at all does this to it. It is a pyramid ps-8k 6 amp constant and 8 surge. Thanks ahead of time.

Pyramid is junk! if you need something to deliver some amps, get an ameritron, expensive? yes! but worth it! unless you are using it for charging your heli/plank/ batts. a standard computer pwr supply will handle that.

Smile! people will wonder what you're up to!!

What are you connecting to it?

And how are you connecting it?

In other words do you connect it and then turn on the power supply or do you turn on the power supply and then connect the item?

That is irrelevant, it should not drop to such a low voltage as he stated period.

Pyramid is junk!
Dude, what are you talking about, been useing them for years. One of the most consistant DC output units on the market,I think the ripple effect is like only 2%.He most likly has a current draw causing the voltage drop.

If your PS is functioning properly, it is possible that it has a input voltage selector. If it does, it is possible that it is set to 220v.

If it is set to 110v and output load is less than 50% and it drops, time to replace.

Some of the Piramid PS (large and heavy) made for ham, are rated for 20% duty cycle. That means it is not suitable near the rated current for charging purposes.

I turn it on and hook up my pocketlader. Just as soon as I push in the clips, the lader flashes and then says "input voltage" I leave it on and test the terminals and they say 2 volts dc. there is no selector on the back for 110/220. I think there is a chip bad on the inside.

Some Pyramid amps were shipped with cracked boards. The boards were cracking due to the mounts bine smaller (just a touch) that the holes in the board. Take the top open, inspect the board and fix where needed.

I have had a 25 amp pyramid for about 18 years and have never had an issue with it! I bought it back in 1990 to run my Tekin and Novak chargers that I used with my off road race cars!
