i'm just wondering about the water line you have drawn above. you can clearly see the algae line and it's a couple of feet lower. not a big deal but was wonder which one is correct?

perhaps the algae line is minus crew, food, etc etc?
Yes, both lines are actually correct. Prior to the boat (a few weeks) going into the drydock, everything that can be removed from the boat is removed. and By everything, it means EVERYTHING.
That includes repair parts, food, water tanks emptied, sanitary tanks emptied, fuel oil tank emptied, weapons, and much much more.

Here's the picture without the redline. You can clearly see both lines on the hull.

Here are a couple pics from my stay in Iraq. I was with the Medevac out of Camp Echo. The UH-60's are mine. The OH-58 was a couple of convoy escorts that stopped in for fuel and breakfast. I kind of miss it sometimes, but I am much happier to be home.

I work at an AETC base nearby. We had an airshow there with a few static displays.

Dood,

The guys on the boomers have the good life. All us "Fast Attack Tough" 688 guys just refer to them all as "Boomer Fags".
The Boomer fags are so proud of their accomidations, that they simply acknowledge the fact and say, "Yep, we're boomer fags"
Lets not forget that each Boomer has two crews. Each Fast Attack has one!

That pic of the F-4 "breaking the sound barrier" is misleading. The condensation clouds that are visible are due to shock waves but the aircraft is not above Mach 1 yet. The air just has accelerated on certain areas of the aircraft to sonic or supersonic speeds.

yeah, I agree. If an aircraft broke the sound barrier that close to a crowd you would have a lot of unhappy people and broken windows...

I assume this is a boneyard? Is it open to the public?

You can get a tour of the boneyard, but you can't just walk up and go explore. I have some freinds that work out there and they send me pics every now and then. Most of those aircraft are gone now, they've been cut up into scrap.

Man oh man do I wish I had all my pics..

I served from 87-97 USN including the first Gulf War. as well as Bosnia no fly enforcement.
we had some incredible pics but that was kinda before digital cams were mainstream.. film for the lose =(

served time with VA-105 VA-72 VFA-105 and 106 and VS-27 all out of NAS Cecil Field FL. cruised on Forrestal, and JFK and Lincoln

Started my tour as an AO and crossrated to AT ended up an AT2 and got out.

wish every day to be back there though. I wish I had never thought that being out would be better.

I guess some of us were lifers..

there are some GREAT pics up at navy.mil in very high res.
