600e on zippy`s is a cheap way to fly.
And have a 450 size heli for 3d, or a 500e heli thats not as expensive as the Trex.

The blue coloured ones seem to work good I think zippy H.
No reason to suspect the others are no good, but I have only used the blue zippy h ones.

I have only just started doing stationary backflips and rolls in the last few weeks with my Trex 600 useing the 6s packs, I have to be very light on the collective or it bogs, but its the same with the Outrage pack I have.

I just got a fresh one delivered 2 days ago and it doesent feel much different to my old ones wich have got about 5 months of everyday flying on them so far, so I think the packs are holding up OK with time.

Get the biggest heli you (your friend) can afford. 600 is better but the 500 is just as good.

Zippys are great bargain batteries, but I doubt they can take the punishment of hard 3D like brand name batteries can.

someone commentd that alan szabo could fly a 600 3D on only 6S but i did want to point out, for a beginner or novice, usually collective management is poor (i know mine is) and you need more power that the pros do to stop yourself from bogging in every manuever. Its the same with 3D planes, which i'm better at. It used to take 200 w/lb to make me feel comfortable but now 130-150 w/lb feels like plenty because my throttle management has improved and i don't often need to do emergency pullouts.

honestly, if your newer, i woudl go for more power, not cause your doing crazy 3D, but in the case that you punch out too hard trying to recover and to add to your inital blunder, the heli can't hold the tail because the headspeed drops and you start to pirouett fast. (dont' ask me how i know this)

mmc205 knows what he's talking about.
many times I've saved it by haveing the extra power available on a good eletric setup. Or the opisit is true, more then once I've crashed doing a low altitude manuver with a 50 nitro and did'nt have enough power to save it.Man does that suck.
I now only do those low ,power sucking manuvers with my electric heli's.And,No more crashes.
Plus It's nice to be able to just thrash it with no worries of bogging.

On the 6s thing, just got of the phone talking to a flying bud about this very subject..

The question we were asking was how is it these factory pilots are flying crazy 3d with stock 6s setups.

About a year ago we had a guy called Nigel Brown who was flying for Align at the time put on a demo at a funfly at out feild, 5-6 mins of tic tocs, chaos and all the other crazy 3d all on 6s packs with a stock Trex600.

Anyone know what the go with these guys heli setups, szabo and the like.??? I just cant see how they get this performance out of a 6s setup.

It's simple, they know what they are doing, they do not mismanage the collective!!!!!!! They do not go beyond the limits of the heli. In a word they never get in the PANIC ZONE.

Shhhhhhh!!

Mu300, dont tell em' that! They drank the "double the price is better" Cool-Aid! If we want Zippys in stock when we want to order just keep repeating that they are "HOVER" only packs please!

BTW. I get 7 minutes as well.

I wish I never got in the PANIC Zone. Seems all I do is fly in the Panic Zone. Maybe someday when I grow up.....

Keep in mind too, if a factory pilot cooks the battery and stock motor to do one good demo flight with a super high headspeed and a high pinion thats okay, the rest of us want our eqpt to last longer.

mmc 205.

I think this is a big thing.

Last night I spent 4 packs doing nothing but backward flips and found by the 4th pack I was able to do 3 consequtive flips with little or no bog useing very precise collective.

Also I have heard that putting on stubs paddles that weigh next to nothing will make for a much more 3d capable heli, but unfortunately this will cause the heli to be an absolute pig to fly around, wich for me is not acceptable as most of my flying is loops and FFF.

I have heard V paddles are somwhere inbetween the stock Align paddles and Stubs so this may be worth trying.

I am currently useing the flouro green raptor "shrek" paddles that are slightly heavier than the stock Align ones but I been hesitant to change them as they look so good in flight with the green halo thats created, my fliprate is fine with them on but maybe the heavier paddle might take away some collective punch Im thinking.

Magic Hook..

\On the Zippy thing, as soon as one of there flying buds takes the risk and buys one of these packs, people will see there as good as any other pack and start buying em like hotcakes.
Just hope that 1 they dont go bust before that time arives or 2 once they realise there selling well bump up the price to the same as the others.
(EDIT)
So far ive not read one bad post about em, has to say something.

I use Hitec hs 85 mg`s on my HDX 500 size heli. I think there the same size as 450 heli servos.

((Please if someone could correct me if I`m wrong as I want to buy a 450 trex and want to know if they will fit in that heli)).

I dont know for sure but I would have thought the trex 500 also uses small servos otherwise it would get to heavy.
With them servos often when I crash the horns break but theyve never stripped gears.

85mg will not fit you'll have to mod the frame some but should work great in a 450...

Is it just the servo holes that will need fileing out a bit?, or will there be a problem with the depth of the servos, (Eg. will I need to maybe use spacers..

P.S The last Trex 450 I owned was a CDE XL and that had molded frames, back that heli had just been released and was the cool new thing..
