Is there a big benefit to running the 550 on eight cells opposed to six cells. From the videos I have seen on a six cell pack it looks to have more than enough power. I am going to make this my next electric heli and was going to set it up on six cells.

6s works great on a 550mm bladed heli. 8s just gives it extra umph.

The G550 taking 8S is for the the Trexx 600E guys that had to use that
many cells to make the machine move anything close to the G550 on 6S.

Well I am running 6S and loving it build the heli at Orlando funfly
on Thursday night and finished on Friday afternoon. First flight was that evening continued flying her all weekend with a heavy wind blowing
in your face both Saturday and Sunday never once did I feel that I was wanting for power this is the best electric money can buy.

Well another question.

Well I was thinking of going with the 8 cell setup as it seems to be the trend to to with more battery then suggusted but so far I hear that the heli is amazing on 6 cell and should be suited to my style of flying FAI/3D.

Is there any other motor out there I could run instead of the Scorpion 1390KV? Compared to some other high end motors the Scorpion is not as efficent or as powerfull Watts wise. Do not mind a higher price as long as it is more powerfull and efficent then the Scorpion.

Will this motor work?

Kontronics Tango 45-13 1280KV

Is the kv to low to work in this heli? I really like this line of motor and if it would work what pinion would be best to run 2000HS.

Well from most of the team pilots are now trying the NU motors
the 1907-1 for 6S 1910H for 8S or 6S running a larger pinion.

Thanks for your imput. I was just on the phone with the Hobby Store I deal with and was told that in this heli guys opinion that a lower KV with a larger pinion is his gearing of choice. I am not sure if I would like to go with a Neu motor or not as my opinion of them from what I hear is 50/50.

gearing...

It is almost always better to go with a lower KV and larger pinion .....this way you get more surface area on the pinion to make contact with the main gear...LOT less likely to strip the main gear...also the Lower kv motors seem to make more torque in most applications......but not always...

I personally prefer to go lower on the kv in big machines....6s for this machineis probably good enough for most...8s is INSANE from what I hear though ..

I've owned several NEU motors and they have all been excellent. I've had the bearings replaced on one of them and that was after hundreds of flights.

I think the NEU 1907 would be a great way to go for maximum run time and very good power. In-runner motors are more efficient than out-runners like Scorpion.

I will be using a Scorpion 4020-1100 to start with and will try a NEU 1907 after that. My heli will be on 6s.

if running on 6s what pinion would you go with. I tought of running at a Tango 45-10 but would need a 17T pinion to get a governed HS of 2300 in idle 2 and not sure if the gear ratio of 8.24:1 is enough for 3D flight. what are your thoughts and or setup.

I might go with the Scorpion 1390KV to start with as it seems well suited with a 13T pinion and later on change out to a Tango if the 45-13 becomes available in the States and I do not find the Scorpion to my taste.

The 4020-1100 Scorpion wh 11t pinion will net you 2300 at 90% effiency and 100% throttle on 8S.

The 1390kv motor would run over 2600 on a 10t pinion.

With the .7 mod , 140t main gear, any pinion 10t or over should get good engagement but a little more, like 11 or 12 is better.

There is a video or 2 on Outrage Tuning where they are flying the bird on a Scorpion 4025 motor...way to much power for me

I did the head speed calculator on ReadyHeli and on 6 cells with the 1390 and 13t pinion it comes in at 2579 which is what I am looking for as I want to govern it to 80% 2000HS and 90% 2300HS. is there calculator not accurate or should I use KVx.90xTxV/MG

I am running the Scorpion 1390 with the castle creations HV85 in governor mode 11 tooth pinion 70% flat line throttle and my headspeed
is 2370.

Hi Guys the head speed will differ from esc to esc also weather you use gov mode or not

The Kontronik 45-13 will work fine on 6s.

The benefit of going to 8s is more efficiency.

If you are running 6s you do not want to go under a 1100 kv motor as you will loose efficiency

8s you want to stay in a the 800 to 900 kv range

I have alot of Time on 6s in another machine that is the same size
and feel the 8s is the best way to go for over all performance
plus we haven't seen over 130 on the motor and the packs are always around 120 degrees after a 5.30 flight

I will be using a 15 tooth on 8s, scorpion 890, HV-85 in Gov Mode around 55%, works like a charm on the Logo.
