If anyone needs this it is an address you can cut and paste into Google Maps and it puts you right by the field where you can see it on the aerial photo.
Getting off I-30 and going south on 271 takes you to FM-3417. Hope this helps someone program their Garmin (fake solid G)

GPS directions

Hey guys
Are you as excited as I am, hope so because I am starting to get more and more excited.

Please do not procrastinate about making your hotel arraignments. I believe the time period for the Hampton is past for getting the rate at a discount. However that does not mean you can't still call them and try. Check back in prior post for the information to the Hampton, it is a really nice Hotel.

There are also a number of other hotels in the area but not at any discount price. You can Google Mt. Pleasant Texas hotels and check different sites on line for motels and phone numbers. Our sponsoring motel is still available until the Friday one week prior to the event and it a nice hotel if you want a place to sleep at a real reasonable rate.

Motel sponsor:
Executive Inn ( not the newest motel in town, but clean) near all restaurants also. Dial direct 903-572-6611. Mention Southern Rotary Classic / helicopter show etc. for special price.
$49.99 with 2 double beds or 1 queen size etc. plus any tax.
Reservations deadline. September 11, 2009.

GPS Southern Rotary Classic @33.087982,-95.004959

Guys please consider donating to our night flying contest. We are planning on giving away a nice new spectrum radio donated to us by Powerhelis to someone that makes a donation to the nightflying contest. We will have a donation box setup for the night fly at registration. This is not something that you have to do, but it will be fun to give away some prize money to the nightfly champion of the SRC.

Depending on how much money we have in the box, we would like to give away some to the top amateur night flyer. That would be someone that is not sponsored fully by a major helicopter manufacturer. Example: Jamie Robertson, Nick Maxwell are pros, but maybe you have a deal with someone to get some fuel or some blades or maybe some discount items from a hobby shop that is ok you can still enter as a non pro.
I think you get the idea of who the pros are and who they are not.

You do not have to enter the night fly but I would like to encourage as much nightflying as possible for the event.

So bring your night blades and night fly setup to the event.

night fly contest

I want to continue pushing the night flying contest for our event. We are going to set up a donation box at the registration table with an opportunity for guys to donate something to the night fly contest, at registration or any time druing the funfly to just before the nightfly contest.

Those that donate will have a chance to win a new spectrum radio donated to us by PowerHelis.

Each flight can be about 3 to 4 minutes flown to music just as they do at Ircha.

Remember you do not have to enter the night fly contest to night flyg. There flight line is really big and there will be plenty of room to night fly. Night flying will also be done on Friday night.

The moon will be full in the next couple of days so by the time of the event in another couple of weeks, there should not be any problem with the moon.

The power plant and the lake behind will offer a beautiful back drop for the field at night for those that have not been here in a while or have not been here before.

I was want to throw a shot out to the Scale guys, we plan to try to offer an area so you guys can have some time fly without distractions, so bring you scale machines. If you want to gather at one end of the field or one particular section of the field it sounds good. So come on and have some fun at our event.

Yes, I think some turbine guys will be coming, but I believe you also have to have a Turbine waiver.

Getting some more donations coming in to add to the night fly contest, oh man this is going to be sweet!

I am getting more and more excited, is it here yet?

Jeff

Yes, I can do that! But what I would do is take half of that 50 dollars and put it in for your registration fee, or you could also do that as well. Just pay the 25 dollar registration fee and put the other 25 dollars in the night fly donation box.

I just hope guys put some money in that box and I think they will.

We will count it daily and announce how much is up for grabs that Saturday night and do it just like they do at the IRCHA nightfly.

We can do it by the biggest audience response (we will try our best to keep it a secret who each pilot is that is flying) and if it is to close to call by audience choice we will pick out 5 guys to make the finally choice.

Oh this is going to be so sweet. Guys we are going to blow it out of the box at this event.

How about a plane demo at the SRC

Hey Guys,
Here is another suggestion for you. How many of you would enjoy seeing Nick Maxwell do a demo with his plane during our afternoon demos Saturday.

As most of you know, Nick is one of the most accomplished pilots in the entire world. Not only is he a great RC helicopter pilot, he can do it both during the day as well as the during the night.

Furthermore, he has also competed in the XFC in the plank division and therefore he is a great plane pilot as well. He might bring his plane to the event as well and do a demo for us.

We want shut the flight line down for any lengthy time for a plane, because this is a helicopter event but a couple of great plane demos might really be cool, they did this at IRCHA a couple of years ago, so maybe one on a Friday and Saturday for a few minutes would be sweet.

So what do you say guys would you be interested in this. It probably want hurt Nick feelings one way or the other but we want to be considerate to everyone and I think it might be great so I would like some impute from everyone.

It would definitely break up the monotony. I don't know about anybody else, but after watching a flight or two of 3D heli flying, my mind pretty much goes numb to it.

I actually really enjoy watching the demos as long as they are not too long. I mean Jamie Robertson, Nick Maxwell, Bobby Watts and Curtis Youngblood do things I can't do and it is amazing watching them.

I wish I could have seen all of them do demos at Ircha this year, but everyone can't go to Ircha, so this event is a lot of fun.

I mean if I wanted to watch guys flying like I do, I could go to a club field somewhere.

If I wanted to just spend the weekend flying on my own, I could go out to my folks property and fly.

If I wanted to chat with buddies about the hobby, I could do it here on runryder.

So I like watching guys do demo flying, but what I am really looking to see is the night flying, I think it will be a lot better then last year and yeah, the plane demo sounds good too.
