Sounds like you had fun odam, those steaks sure sound like they were good! I got to go fly after going to church nothing too fancy just did some 8's and a lot of precission landing, I really enjoy asking people where they want me to land, the hard part is when you start getting closer to the ground. I can notice that the main gear is getting a little worn out so I'm going to wait a little longer and replace it. I don't think I should get the one for the V2 right? I think that one is better for the XL motor and i have the X what do you guys think

Oh man I didn't even notice Thanks for letting me know odam! I don't know when but I am up to 610 posts so it couldn't have been too long ago.

Yeah I couldn't agree with you any more about learning to fly and actually being in control odam. it's just that turning slower or doing anything slower takes more concentration and skill than doing it fast.

Ok, heres the video...

Watch at YouTube

The first flip was ok, the second and third I was trying less collective, it is so much different than the sim...

It was probably too windy to be doing any flips. I did one nose in backflip, and it wasn't too bad, a rough recovery, but just as I was about to start the second nose in flip, a huge gust of wind came up and I lost it.

Hi Guys, Looks like everyone had some good fun this weekend. Good. Our Prayers are still with you too Sonny.

I was able to get 6 or 7 flights in today myself. I strapped on my camera and took some decent video of the neighborhood and the lake. Still have to work on aiming the think. Got lots of tree shots and not as musch lake as I would have liked. On the last video I was hovering and doing Piros when I tried to stop and look at myself and next thing you know, It buzzed over my head and trimmed some tree branches Broke another set of blades! Rats!! That is three this week Looks like I will go back to just practicing the basics. I was able to do quite a bit of head in using prenty of altitude though. Had a blast! I shot a quick video of the moon through my teliscope last night for the first time. That was cool. See Ya all later.

hay odam that was cool knd a close to the ground a fue times but it was neat to see you doing that. even if you had a hard landing your doing it.
i was reading one of your posts on here about a wobble being caused by low head speed so today i went through my programming for the mx 400 and bumped the throttle setting in st1 up to 85% and recurved my pitches in normal and st1 and man what a differance that made. it flys in a hover so much stabler and no more wobble. wished i have read that earlier as i have been fighting that for a couple weeks now. got to get out of the house and fly a bit today till i couldnt feel the radio sticks on my thumbs. no gloves and snow on the ground but its all good. hovered it for a short while then attempted to go into slow forward flight but before i knew it it ws more like fast forward flight but did not loose controol and braught it back after slowing it down. well i am up to 9 flights with no crashes whitch i feel is good progress after last weeks mishaps. feel like my confidance is improving and ly skill level is alot better. tail in hovering is not a problem and nose in is doing o.k as well as right and left side so its all working out.
have fun all

hay odam and oh-6 thanks for the help but i may be thinking differently about forward flight i can fly on the sim but when i am flying the 400 it is more like drifting in a hover in a forward direction then adding rudder then forward elevator to correct the drection just not real smooth bit i will get it. faster and it is more smooth but on the edge of out of controol lol. trying to stay in controol here. here is what i think 3 weeks ago i couldnt hover with out braking parts now i am hovering the heli and lifting it off the ground into a hover is verry comfortable as where it use to make me verry nervous. i can do piros with out a problem in bolth directions. can fly 30 feet high with no major issues there either.
other than being able to see the helicopter but i put some neon green on it and its easier to see now aginst the clods. all in all i feel verry good about my progress but still have a long way to go
.
buy the way oh-6 what is the free sim you mentioned???

What a balmy day... well, it was... it was 10c before lunch (50f) and its on its way down to -10c (14f) by 5pm. I went to the park at lunch and flew the Voyager, a 500 size electric, and it was pretty windy, 30km/h gusting to 59km/h (19mph gusting to 37mph) so it was a little rough.... At one point, I heard what sounded like a freight train coming up behind me, so I landed quickly, and as I turned around, I saw the tops of 60 foot evergreen trees bent over at a 45 degree angle, a massive wind gust blew through. I sure am glad I landed before it hit...

Only flew the one pack, but at least I got some flying in today

All this wind sure sucks, but you know what? on the rare windless day, I sure notice that my hovering is becoming rock solid, even with the Blade 400.

Hey Odam,

Yeah baby, that wind was the hawk!!! (a term they used in Alaska in the army to describe winters cold blasts)Its coming in hard and strong! Early this morning it went through here! Its cold as heck outside now and doesn't show any sign on warming for the next week! I have not had a chance to even try to fly for the last week and it doesn't look much better for this week. I got a little bit of sim time in yesterday and a bit today. I may do a little more tonight as i will not be going back to the hospital in this snow and wind! My daughter is still on the ventilator, they might try to take it out again tomorrow. She seems to be responding a bit more to us as she obviously cannot talk with that tube down her throat.

Man this thread is slipping down the ranks!!

Papa Sal, how goes it bro? You doing alright?

Yep, it dropped from +10 this morning to -4c so far, supposed to go to -10c tonight. I built myself a transmitter box so I can fly without gloves. I picked up the parts at the dollar store

2 sheets 6mm depron 24"x36"
2 Craft Table top protectors (plastic)
4 rolls of white duct tape
3 fluffy dog blankets
1 nylon strap
1 strip self adhesive velcro

Total, $13.00

I made the box out of depron, and then covered with the plastic top and bottom for support. Cut out the hole to view through and covered it with the plastic wrap from the plastic protectors...
Coated the inside with the dog blankets taped and glued to inside box. Left a flap that covers where the hands go in, and velcro it so it will stay tight... Taped the straps on to hold it in the right position. The inside is quite comfy with the blankets, they are soft and fuzzy... I'll put a couple of those chemical handwarmer packs inside, should keep it toasty warm. The depron should act like insulation along with the blankets.

I haven't tried it for real yet, but I think it will work, if it does, it beats paying $100 for one at the hobby shop. Maybe in the morning, its gonna be cold...

Thanks Sonny... my wife hasn't seen me fly for a while, she thought I had improved a lot. It was very windy, and I probably shouldn't be doing flips when its that windy, but I amazed myself by even attempting the nose in flips. They are so easy in the sim, but that 400 is so fast, it can be a wreck on the ground before you know it... One of these days I'll get up the nerve to try a nose in flip with the Raptor, I bet it would be easier, its like its in slow motion compared to the 400.

aww come om odam the kitty paw pring is so cute though. just kidding bit it is cute. looks like it may keep your hands a little warmer need to ut a heating pad in there and warm it up with your generator before you fly ir get an inverter so you can get it warm on your way to the field. good idea though. well it is about 15 degrees here so not so bad had to work 10 houres today so no time for flying and i need to warm up anyway.
.
hay oh-6 really i do apreciate all the help and it has made alot of difference to me you guys are great and all the guys on here have been really supportive and helpfull.
.
trying to sell off some of my older helis and get a 500 i think the size may make alot of differance in my flying abilities and being able to see the heli clearly would help. .
i noticed yesturday that with the heli 20 feet in front of me that when i was coming down slowly that i was just about on the ground and cut the throttle and the leki dropped almost a foot. thaught for sure i was about an inch of the ground lol need to get my eyes checked i think. did not do any damage to the heli that i can tell
but felt kind a stupid to myself as i was the only one there lol.

Yeah good move on the 500 like I said before you're going to love it, but hey I'll get that 400 from you just gotta come up with the cash I have $100 to blow off right now but that's too little. What kind of servos and gyro does it have, you can pm me if you'd like and how much do you want for it?

By the way nice fleet bro I hadn't noticed that you posted some pic's but that's really great though!
