Hey OH-6
I flew a few batts today after all. Just too windy for me though. I was able to go to idle-up mode for the first time today. It was easy, but I was still a little shaky afterwards though. I ended up in a street sign and busted the blades, and shafts. Had spares and just finished the last flight of the night. Is it true that air crashes come in threes? Is this why a lot of spares come in packs of three too LOL

Jeep, thats a pricey receiver! Its $190Cdn here... Thats almost as much as my first heli cost... I guess if I still have a problem with the heli, I may resort to that, just so I have some logs to look at.... interesting idea....

hehe that's great Jeep Geo!!! The transition from normal to st1 or 2 should not be that big of a difference though. if you make all your pitch curve lines the same(0, 25, 50, 75, 100) exept for normal mode which should have less negative pitch, you shouldn't even feel it do you know what I mean?? lol you have a theory there now fly in the wind a couple more times and you're going to prove it!!

I think my curves are good, as no change from hover to 1st. Just feels strange to have so much negetive. I can now fly all crazy like on the sim and only crash once in awhile. Inverted, continious flips and rolls, lots of fun. Just a little scared to try it for real! Soon, soon. Here are some pic of my first atempt at a camera mount.

Everything mounts with a few tie wraps. The camera is not in the pics cause I'm using to take the pics. You can adjust the angle of the cam and lock it down. I will see how it works if the wind will let up one of these days.

I have rigged a servo to push the shutter button, but it requires my gyro head lock channel (gear), and I'm not sure if I can give that up. If I can get the gyro to stay in HH mode without using the gear channel it might work. This way I can take high rez photos and restart the recorder remotely. I think this will be all the weight I will want to put on this poor little 450.

i see, well if you set the gear channel to gyro you can set the controller for each flight mode than you won't need the switch for anything and maybe you can get it to work like that but I'm not shure if that will actually work

hay odam that last video was much better maby its my eyes lol i have hard time seeing the 450 on it but the raptor is easy to see. nice nose in still working on that on the sim but making progress. having forward flight issues though to much controol or not enogh controol at the wrong time. i will get it though just practice and i have lots of time for that latly.
.
what do you guys like to practice on the sim i am working with the hover in all orientations and doing forward flight. then go off and practice flips and rolls. but for me it seems more like a video game than a training tool so really have to concentrate on doing one thing and not just flying like a crazed maniac even though its fun
.
working on putting a little color on my venture 30 all white is to easy to loose so some bright colors should help.
.
whats the best way to get a stuck carb to free up this venture has been sitting so long i cant move the throttle open or closed maby some pb balster will help.
.
have fun

hehe I know what you mean COBRA, it's frustrating when you can go crazy on the sim but than you go outside with the real thing and can't do half the stuff you could do on the sim. I think it's a mental thing though because hovering on the sim is a lot harder than in real life so everything else should be a lot easier to do in real life than Anyways I like to do normal 8's, upside down and backwards?? I'd like to thank odam for getting me to try those out

Maybe try some WD-40?

oh what happens when you fly FF? once your in FF it's basically like flying an airplane except on the turns But yeah learn one thing first and later the other. You're on the right track, just keep practicing!

dang man I haven't heard from sonny, I really hope everything is well!

I'd suggest when you start Forward Flight, learn to go slow... the slower the better... I started right away going fast, very big banked corners, almost stall turns, but I was not in control... I thought I was, but really, I was just trying not to crash, lol...

I went from tail in hovering to fast fwd flight, figure 8's, then flips and rolls... At that point, I decided to go back to the basics, and spent a lot of time on hovering again, I'm pretty comfy with nose in, but still shakey with side in, but can manage if the heli is moving slowly... Learning to fly a figure in slow was very hard, it would always just stop, so I'd give it fwd elev, and it just wanted to take off, so I'd give back elev, and it would stop... It's a lot easier on the 500 or the 30 size than the 400. The sim helped a lot too, because when I started slow fwd I was crashing in the sim all the time...

I think it would be easier to learn slow forward, then transition to fast forward. I think your fast forward would have much more control that way....

Anyhow, just my opinion, I'm no expert

Hey Guys and Gals,

thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers for my daughter, she still needs them, spending lots of time at the hosp so not flying lately.

But, Odam, I dont know if you did it or not, but on that DX7 you need to program that upper right switch as the "OH ****" switch to kill the throttle! That way you keep your little finger on it all the time and when you pull it forward the throttle is killed, good for those auto's!

Brrrr! you been doing some cold flying. I havent caught up in all the thread the last couple days but thought i would touch base and make sure its still alive!!!

I'm glad to hear from you sonny! I hope she get's better soon so you can get back to flying and worring about heli stuff instead of health issues.

Hehe yeah that little switch is great!!

I don't know odam learning to fly slow FF and turns is kind of asking for it. Atleast when you're going fast and try to turn you can still recover but going slow and being a newbie might not be the greatest idea. It might have worked for you because you already had some experience and basically went from doing it fast to slow but I wouldn't recommend starting out slow since like you said you're still having problems with that. I myself have problems when I try slow FF or even turns you have to be more precise. That's just my .02 cents but let us know what you came up with COBRA and I hope you chose to do what's best for you.

By the way when you turn you have to give it a little cyclic the way you want to turn and a lot of rudder to get it to turn smooth. Try it out and let us know what happens.

By the way you should get the free sim so you can send us videos of your flight's maybe we could help you out and give some tips!

Got my trex flying this weekend at an indoor flying field. My first! I couldn't fly very long though cause my esc went out somehow. I met alot of good people, and a few of guys had told me I should scrap my 9c super and go to 2.4. I know I can upgrade to 2.4 on the 9c, but it would be slow. I just wanted to get into the hobby and build on what I have. Some guys also gave me a little flack for my airframe. Its a microheli, and one guy asked my why I wanted it. I just said I got he heli like that at a very reasonable price, and I knew the guy who had it. I've had lots of help in the past and will get more in the future, but I felt kinda stupid after, cause some of the guys there had helped me get the right stuff to start with. I didn't want to go crazy and spend a fortune on my first, but I didn't want to go cheap either. I think I got a decent setup, I don't really know how to do much more than hover and a little forward flight yet, so I just needed the basics, so thats what I purchased. A little bit more than basic (I think). I know there is something better out there, but I spent within my means, and I personally don't think Im screwed in the long haul. Sorry for the rant, just needed to get it off my chest! But I did get to fly though!

hey Panda, I'm glad you got to fly!! Hey don't worry about crap like that, you did fly didn't you and you still can go outside and fly whenever you want can't ya... don't care about stuff like that man. There's people in the hobby that are rich and are able to get the newest and the best things but than again there's normal people like us that have to work hard for our stuff... your set up is fine!! Maybe if you start having problems later start upgrading but if you're good for now use what you have. Some people are just conceded and think that whatever they say must be donne! Just ask them how they started and I can honestly tell you that they didn't start with the best of the best!

Panda, the most important line in your post is the last....

But I did get to fly though!

Sonny, we'll keep her in our thoughts...

OH-6, you might be right, I never thought of it that way, but I sure wish I learned to fly in control rather than out of control first

I had a great day flying today... We've had a Heat Wave here, it went up to 4c! (39f) Windy as heck, but it was a balmy wind
Went to the park first this morning, flew 4 flights, 2 on the Voyager, and 2 on the Blade 400, lots of nose in hovering...

Then went up to the Heli Club field and flew 4 tanks on the Raptor. Still can't get over how great it feels with the new servos, tx, etc... just did some circuits, 8's, and lots of nose in, including takeoff and landing....

Finally, came home, picked up the wife and dog, and we went back to the park, bbq'd some steaks, and flew 2 more packs on the voyager, then 2 more on the blade 400. Did some flips with the 400, including 2 nose in backflips... still not very pretty On the second one, as I was recovering, a big gust of wind caught it and it ended up on the ground, not very hard, and upright, but had a blade strike on the snow, and it sheared the top bolt on the shaft, that was it...

Whenever I do flips in the sim (either HeliSimRC or RF G4.5) I can do a flip and stay in one place, but I just can't get the pitch right, cause I always lose altitude. I tried less pitch, more pitch, but too much and it bogs, too little and it sinks... just can;t find the right amount... but it's cool to do flips without crashing now

Picked up some supplies to try making my own Transmitter Glove... See how that goes, got everything from the dollar store
