Hey Cobra, you only crashed 4 times this year?? Man! One could only wish for a season like that! Heck, I crashed 4 times in a month, no problem! Hopefully this year goes way better than that!
We had an indoor fun fly today, it was a good turn out, with 32 registered pilots, good time was had by all! And I took it easy trying to get used to the 450 again and did not crash!!! Yippeeeeeeeee!!!
Gotta love days like this!

On the Gyro, I really wanted to try one of the new really small ones, I've read nothing but good reviews on the spartan's, and new on the market the inertia, but then I would have had to get a servo too. This way i got both for a good price. My wallets still smartin from Christmas. No credit card debt! So it had to come out of my heli budget! Darn!

I'm no expert, and the only reason I keep harping about the Spartan gyros is I've tried a bunch of others, and these are the first ones that do exactly what they should, and do it perfectly... I have hear really good things about others, but I'm not going to risk any more money trying them when I already know these are 100%

Glad you did ok at the fun fly Sonny, I presume all that practice in the basement is paying off.... It will pay off big time when you get the big heli's back out in the spring...

well i has the futaba 401 and the jr 770s and the spartin by far blows the 401 away and is much more firgiving that the 770. bolth the 401 and the 770 served there purpose but after flying my first spartin i sold all the others and baught stock in the spartin and have no reson to try something els. other than the quark that is whitch is also a spartin.
.
ya sonny first 2 crashes were my 500 bolth 2in 1 regulator problems.
the 3rd crash was my 600 caused by a 2 in 1 regulator failure. 4th crash caused my a boom strike on my 700. and i have been flying sence october - september of 08 so im thinking i had a great year for still learning what to do. i have to say the sim has been a verry usful tool and has saved me alot of money.

I hear that, I guess its hard to teach older dogs how to fly right!! I've still got a lot to learn, I have found where some of my problems are, and thats being able to tell orientation from my right side doing turns away from me in circuits, its hard to tell which way the heli is leaning, and if i take to long to figure it out, I'm in deep poo poo! So I'm practicing on the simulator a bunch and have recently started practicing online with real flight and doing voice chat as well, it makes it more fun.

yeah it felt pretty good to not have to worry about the walls and ceiling in the basement as well as furniture. I was able to trim them out a bit better in an open space.

I have a 601 on my Trex600 Nitro, and its pretty rock solid. I've never had an issue with it. Nor had the guy I bought it from and he could fly the snot out of it! I think the new ones now have just used new technology to put all that electronic stuff in a really small chip on the newer gyro's. I imagine the new ones are every bit as good as the older 400 dollar gyro of a few years back. Especially with every thing I read about them. Maybe on the 700 I get for Steve to fly!!! LOL

well steve i bought the 450 super combo so its all ALign electronics on it now i was thinking of switching everything out for smaller stuff i like the narrow fram for looks but see why the wider frames are nice for tucking away elecs. I really like clean installs and thats why ill be switching up the stuff in this thing now the cyclics will probally stay but i definately would like to get the smallest speedo and gyro just looks cooler with the Futaba or the Quark lol

hay dennis i have been watching the clasifieds and hase noticed alot of people selling off the spartins to buy the new 520 then a fue months later thay have the 520 for sale to purchase the spartins back. ive seen the 520 fly and its a great gyro and a fue of the guys are i have flown with are align sponsered pilots and thay are using the 520. i will keep my spartins as thay seem to be every bit as good and maby a lil better but never flying a 520 i dont know..
.
hay sonny its all good bro. im no spring chicken lol. i also have problems with orientation mostly when flying large figure 8 patterns at the big field i can turn to the right at the right side of the field and left on the left side of the field but i cant seem to turn left on the right side of the field. its all mental but it still scrues me up every time.

See even Steve0 is still practicing. Don't worry about it Sonny you will get there. Just remember some guys have a natural talent for flying like Jeff, and most others it will take a few years. But you will get there. Heck I'm still looking to get at hovering all orientations including inveterted. But after 3 years I know it will come. I bet i fly about 30 to 45mins every day on the sim. Some days are better than others and I really feel as if I learn stuff. Just my 2 pennies though.

Carpe Diem!!!

Thanks for the encouragement guys, the sim time surely does help. I can pick out my weak spots better now than when i could when i was first starting out, a year ago! So now to iron the weak spots out!

New kid on the corner

Greetings from the upper left hand corner. Time for me to get social on RR. I saw the post speaking about sims. I've been using a G4.5 for about a year now as I am trying to put together the funds for a Trex 600 NSP. I flew a Nexus 30 many years ago and from my own stupidity put it in the ground. I've got the fever to fly again and have been just practicing the basics of hovering in all orientations, and forward flight on the sim. When I get the Trex, I'm going to get a good instructor and follow the same plan. Can't seem to transpose the brain waves to inverted hovering and tictocs on the sim yet but I have faith that will come.

Lots of new gadgets out since I flew last and I just don't know how much is really necessary for me, and whats overkill. For example, I know about gyros, but 2 in 1 regulators, governors, carb smarts, and choices of servos that are available are new to me. Any comments are needed and appreciated PM me if you like. Anyhow, enough babble, glad to be here on RR, hope to always make new friends, and promote our sport and fellowship the best I can. I am truley a Rotorhead. Lots of great deals out there in the classifieds, hope to be flying the real bird this year. Happy New Year to all.

Vic

Enter Scanman! Welcome! I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions and most of it good here on RR! As you might have read here on this post, lots of guys are flying the spartan gyro's and swear by them. I have seen them on lots of birds, but don't have one myself. But I'd like to fly one someday! I've only been in the hobby for a year myself so I'll leave the advice to those who are in the know! Maybe sometime we can hook up on the sim!

Thanks sonnyhad, I'll have to try that online sim thing sometime with ya. The computer took a dump on me just yesterday, so I've got the son-in-law computer wiz kid gettin her back in working order, so for now no sticktime for me. I'm on the computer at work right now just to keep up on the Rotorheads. I think I fell into this topic just cruz'in, but I'll figure out how to get into the mainstream of topics and hope to chat with ya again....See ya

Hey Scanman, you might go back to the beginning of this topic and see what its all about! Its about new heli pilots and getting a few successful flights in a row without crashing! It was very encouraging for all who visit! Even after they've been flying awhile, one still needs to get back to the basics, so I'm told, I'm still at the basics! LOL! And I still get that excitement, "Oh Yeah baby"! Something about the mechanics and making it all work together, its definitely a hands on hobby!

I don't know, he kind of dropped off the face of RR! I know he got a job and maybe that's what did it! Don't know for certain.
