I think i am going to see about firing up the nitro and maybe hovering out in the street.
I spun up a 450 I have not flown yet and the tail keeps spinning around when the speed gets up, that means the gain is high doesn't it? Or maybe something in the radio.
Well here goes nothing. Got my fuel can all set, the only thing is , if this glow ignitor works!

So??? Did ya fire it up? How'd it go?

I went to the park after work tonight, even though it was a little too windy for my taste. I decided to go all out and have some fun with the HK450, what the heck. I did some flips, started up high because of the wind, then brought it down a little lower, and was doing pretty good till part way through a flip my rudder servo came unplugged! Yikes! Couldn't recover, scratch one heli... I don't tie the rudder/servo connector since in a crash in the past, I pulled the wire right out of the servo, and I didn't want that to happen again. Now I'll start shrink wrapping that connector again.

Ok, no problem, I always bring more than one helicopter with me, so I grabbed the other HK450, the wind was pretty gusty, I did some flips, rolls, loops, then during a loop, the wind just sdailed the helicopter back over my head (I was facing into the wind) and as it passed overhead, I lost sight of it... Scratch another heli...

Dang... didn't even finish a pack on each of em...

Grabbed the Floater Jet, wanted to see how it would handle in the wind, and see if it was still cutting out. I replaced the ESC with a MAG-8 30A (Tower Pro) mounted outside the fuselage with a heat sink on it, and a Hextronik BEC. I flew a couple times, and it never cut out. I landed just fine even in the wind, and brought the plane home in good shape.

I stripped gears on two of the DS285's, bent two tail booms, broke 3 blades, 2 links, chewed one main gear... I think that might be it, not sure as I've barely started fixing em...

The good news is I have it all on video! he he

Hey Sonny, did you try reversing the servo direction? I take it the rudder is correct?

Are you talking about the nitro, or the 450 with the servo direction.
The 450 servo direction is the right way, and the gyro initializes in heading hold as the light comes on and stays solid.

Man Odam, great video!! Its hard as heck just to hover in a breeze, and you must of had the wind we had yesterday! Today it was relatively calm compared to yesterday. But i was in so much pain from working in the yard yesterday I couldn't fly until late in the day!!
I have to look up the throttle jockey and see how to bring the throttle down a little.
Boy, how long till the nerves settle down!!

Yep, I fired up the 600n and hovered out in the street. It has a throttle jockey on it, and it seemed to be revving too high! It might be that I'm not used to it, but I dont remember it being that way when we set it up on my radio! Its burning wild cat helimix 30%.

I didn't get a chance to call them yesterday. I'll call this morning when they open.

It definately was windy here yesterday, the sustained wind wasn't bad, but those gusts were nightmares

I was working on the heli's last night, and after replacing the gears in one of the DS285 servos it must have been binding, because the elevator servo let out the magic smoke It had been working ok, cause I checked it after putting it back together, but as it was sitting there, I noticed at one point that the elevator servo was all the way at one end, and when I touched it, it was very hot, and then out came the smoke... So now I have to wait till the end of the month to buy a new servo... I guess the right thing to do would be to upgrade the cyclics to 285MG's

So, I'm down to one 450 at the moment, I could get the other one working with HXT servos if I wanted, but not likely

Hopefully I'll be flying the rappy this weekend!

Yeah, I hope you fly the rappy as well. I picked up a case of wild cat helimix 30% for 106. so the prices are coming down. The worse part is that the gov has a hazardous material tax on it!

I called this morning and still no parts I'm starting to get a little concerned here... I sure had hoped to be flying it soon... Perhaps if I ask for my money back it will light a fire under them

Was the tax much?

It all come in the delivered price. The LHS orders a skid at a time to minimize the hazmat tax. So everybody gives him a order and when he gets enough to order a skid, then he orders. If you wanted a case in a hurry and he ordered that way, the tax would be high, around 40-50 dollars. I think its the same as if it were a skid.
I am thinking about going out to the field and hovering the nitro again.
It had some curtis blades on it, and I was afraid of wrecking them so i took them off and put on a set of fiber glass ones, man i think it changed the way it fly's. The guy i bought it from made it stand still hands off. It sure wasn't that way with these blades on it.

Its too windy to fly here today... 'specially after crashing both 450's yesterday

I'll wait till tomorrow... I'm off work tomorrow, so will get some time to play around, fix up some more helicopters, maybe even get to work on that new scratchbuilt foamy I printed out the plans for...

This is NOT my video, but it is the plane I'm gonna build...

That is a cool plane, I like that it can take off from water! Is that a kit or what? I was gunna fly today but it was too cold and I had the starter in my van for a few hours and the battery was too cold to start the nitro. I had fuel in my tank from yesterday and a guy at the HS said that was a no no! I guess i have quiet a bit to learn about nitro's.

hay sonny how was your blade tracking with the glass blades. diferent sets of blades track differently and will have an affect on the flyability. i have radix blades on one and v-blades on the other bolth fly great and blades track perfect.

also are the blades semetrical that were removed or semi semetrical. and are the blades installed the same. its verry sweet when you can stop the heli 3 feet infront of you in a hover and it just sits there with verry little or no input. bolth of mine are like that with a sustained wind but with no wind thay tend to wonder a bit.

Man Cobra, you are throwing terms at me that I don't know! semetrical? I dont know what that means in blades! I did notice that the tracking was very close, but not exact.

I don't know what you mean by installed differently. I thought there was only one way to put the blades on! I think I am about to learn some more good stuff!!

Basically symetrical means the top of the blade and bottom of the blade are both curved, as opposed to flat bottom blades. I've never seen flat bottom blades for anything bigger than my CP Pro, but its not like I've seen a lot of blades...

So, went out this morning and flew the 450, the Voyager, the Floater Jet, and the Super Cub... ah, nice to have a day off, and perfect flying weather

I popped up to the LHS after, and found out my Raptor parts still haven't arrived I wanted to get the other 450 flying but since I burned out that DS285 servo, I'd have to use HXT servos, and I just shudder at that thought, so while I was at the LHS I asked about another DS285 to replace mine (to purchase, not warranty, I bought them on ebay), but he didn't have any in stock. So, I ended up picking up 3 more HS5065MG servos Here's the scary part, I can't afford them till the end of the month, but that wasn't a problem... Uhm, credit at the LHS? oooohhh....

So now I'm rebuilding the second 450 with the 5065's and when they get another 285 in stock, I'll put those in a blade 400...

Anyhow, back to work on the 450, then we're off to the park again for some flying and bbq'ing... what a beautiful day!

Sure, hold them up to the blade grips with the blade roots out, so the holes are at the outter end, and then wrap electrical tape around the blade and grip to hold it on... make sure you use a lot of tape cause there's a lot of force on the blades...

Of course you know I'm just kidding....

Yep it was a nice day out, but it was cold! I flew the nitro and electric 600's and the hdx450. A tad breezy but it will make better pilots out of us!!

I don't know about you, but I use the hundred mile an hour duct tape to hold my blades on! Works pretty good cept when you hit the mail box!
I hear tell, their going to come out with the 150 mile an hour tape, I'm sure it'll work much better.
Man, that sucks about the raptor parts! I know your just chomping at the bit, waiting for those! I got this video about set up and the guy there swears by the Raptor 50.
