Was just messing around and noticed my lower J bolt is sloppy. I haven't pulled the main shaft out yet but its almost like the hole in the shaft is too big because I can rock the gears back and forth quite a bit before it catches on the main shaft. I pulled the bolt out and it looks perfect so it must be the hole. Has anyone else noticed that?

Sun, Check out my recent question on the tail gear wobble. It seems to be normal. Horizon has a new autorotation shaft and tail gear housing in the mail, so I will post back if anything has changed.
see if this link works, Doug

JUST DON'T TIGHT IT DOWN. If you will you might experience the same as I did... one way locked up. Like I said in the other thread, all my vibes do this and since I'm "humming" free, the fact that the my lower jesus bolt isn't tight on the housing, it doesn't look to be critical.

I know some folks have used a couple of set screws to line up the one way housing without over tighten the lower jesus bolt. I may end up going that route myself but for now I didn't experience any bad things by having it loose.

Its not just the wobble, I can hold the head/mainshaft and rock the gears back and forth a bit. Its like the hole in the mainshaft is too big.

I'll pull it apart and post back what I find.

No no, the hole I'm talking about is the one in the mainshaft where the J bolt goes through.

Anyways I took it apart and the hole in the mainshaft and the hole in the auto rotation shaft that the J bolt goes through is slightly larger then the J bolt. I also checked this out on my new yet to fly vibe and its the same so nothing has worn, its just the way it is from new.

What did you determine about the lower bolt? Did you fly it that way? Same thing here on #2 Vibe as you're describing. #1 vibe is tight, I did tighten the lower bolt it seemed to stop rocking... just curious

I determined that its just the way it is and its not causing any issues. I've been flying with it like that and its just fine.

read my first post... rather have a rocking tail gear then replacing a $80 one way (although mine was replaced under warranty)

I did 9 flights with it as is and no wear, no humming and no locked one way.

PS - Did I say I love my vibe today? I don't think so... I LOVE IT

Tony,
How tight did you wrench on it? After you wrenched on it was the torrington still smooth and easy, then seized in flight?

it was still smooth. I only tighten it up until the lower gear wouldn't move by applying pressure with my finger. My best guess is that it was enough to slightly deform the one way sleeve (which is pretty thick) and that led to the failure.

I got a new one way assembly and I sent the old one back for inspection. I also sent them my old one way sleeve so they can try to find out what happen exactly. What I do know is that it was a hell of a job to unlock the unit and once it was free, one of the roller fell out of the plastic cage. I did put it back and the one way seemed to work ok but I wasn't to risk it again. I replaced both the sleeve and the one way.

If you want to remove some of the play, take a nylon bolt and drive it in the main shaft. Then drill a slightly smaller hole then 3mm across the main shaft nylon bolt assembly. The nylon will help hold the J bolt across the main shaft.
