This is the first start of the engine, I was aiming for 40:1 oil mixture, but I think I'm a bit off, (smoke)
Started pretty nice, but I gotta work on the linkage and carb as I can't kill it from the TX.
I'm gonna check it over now and see if I can hover it today.

I did not know you could get electric start for a gasser. Is this a Vario exclusive??? Or is this something you can get for all Zenoah motors??? What does it weigh??? What are the details of setting it up ????

ENGAGE!!

Well it's "not much" heavier than the pull start and it runs happy on 2 cell lipo. It calls for a 9.6V battery so I figured the 2c lipo will do as well. Well it did. I was actually very surprised about how easy the engine started....... I did about 25 starts with it and only put 350MAH back into the pack.

Yes it is from Vario

Actually this German company makes universal starters that fit most gassers

I am thinking of buying a 9420A one for my Bergen - installed with the motor between the crankcase and the tank.

How would you go about securing it to the bergen frames. The starting plate is the engine mounting plate?Cool idea though I would buy one for mine if it ideed will work for a Bergen.

Yes the starting plate IS the engine mounting plate... I don't have the unit in my hands yet (I didn't even put the heli together after the rebuild...) but the way I see it we have two options.

Either we use the Bergen engine mounting plate - cutting a small semicircular indentation for the motor at the front edge and drilling 4 new holes for the starter gearbox to attach (these 4 holes have the same pattern like Zenoah's stock pull starter).

OR we use that nice thick aluminium starter/engine mounting plate that comes with the 6420A kit and drill and tap 2 holes on each side in order to bolt it between the lower frames.

According to this
http://www.fema-modelltechnik.de/Ne...list03_engl.pdf it's Euros 229, but if you are on the west side of the pond Hobby Lobby has some of their products:

http://www.hobby-lobby.com/fema.htm

Usually retailers give much better prices than than the manufacturer's MSRP and they might be able to order it for you!

Cheers,

Does anyone know where to buy the FEMA 9420A starter? Hobby-Lobby doesn't carry it. Wanting to try to retro to a Bergen as well.

Thanks, ...Tim
