All,

New to the electric helis, nice not cleaning up after flights.

I'm having a problem with my 400. When I got it two weeks ago I also got a extra battery (2100). My first flight on each of the batteries lasted a little over eight min. before the ESC went to a "soft" low voltage warning. I sent my Tx timer for 5 min and have flown at this setting for more than 10 flight on each battery pack. So yesterday I went out with fully charged batteries and got the "soft" warning ON BOTH at around 2 mins. thinking maybe they weren't charged all the way, I charged them both again last night. But today they both did the same thing.

Any ideas? I have the stock charger, so it only has lights...no meter.

Anyway any help will be welcome.

P.S. Should I look into a different charger? If so what's working for you?

Craig

when it cuts down like that again bring it in and feel the esc. might be getting too hot like mine did and cutting power back. the sctock esc is too small for this heli.

Thanks nappy, I got the same from someone off another forum. If that's the case what ESC should I get? Also other than it getting hot how else can I be sure it's the ESC? You would think 20 flights shouldn't take it out, I'm not doing any 3D with it.

I solved that problem by taking it out from the factory location and mounting it on the frame on the side of the heli!

Funny you say that 30636086, I just came in from a test, wanted to see how hot the ESC was getting so I didn't fly with the canapy. I had no problems, lasted 2 min past the 5 I have set in the Tx.

I know it gets hot here in TX so I might try what you did. where on the side did you mount it?

Thanks

Thanks for the pics. Looks like this will be the first mod.

I would assume others are having this problem, I was suprised not to see more about the ESC on the forums.

Again Thanks,

Craig

I got the Cellpro 4S charger and is a great charger and balancer in one unit I cant say anything bad about it! It was recommended by a guy and I went back to thank him!

The battery that came with the 400 that the stock charger wouldn't charge I think that I ran it too low and the stock charger could balance or charge cell #2. I put it on these charger and I got it back! Its a digital charger that tells you everything about the battery and has safety features built in too! Charges lipos up to 4 cells! You can get it from FMA website!

Thanks, will order it tonight.

Looking at your pics, I notice you have changed the servos and gyro. Was this for doing 3-D, or because you were afraid of failure in air? I'm newly back to helis and back 15 years ago we weren't doing, or should I say "I" wasn't doing 3-D.

At this point I'm just doing a little fast foward and rolls, no true 3-D, and am happy with that for a few months. Still getting the hand shake doing the rolls.

I jumped into these hobby last may with no heli experience what so ever! My prior RC experience was airplanes as a lil kid(not much) RC cars as a teenager and fast boats later on!(got tired of having to swim to get them!)
I like challenging things and helis fit right in! Plus I'm pretty sure that you have heard it by now that RC helis are the "crack" of RC's! They are addicting!

So getting back on the subject; since I didn't have any exp on helis I hit the ground right away! and the servos got strip, so when I went to the LHS I met a heli guy that told me "you have two options, either keep replacing the plastic gears or get servos that have metal gears!" So I went for door # 2 and got the HS65MG! They are great! I have hit ground 4 times and they still rocking!

I even have one on tail until a few weeks ago when I upgraded the stock gyro for a 401 and futuba 9650servo for the tail! Now I can fly under real windy conditions! No problem! Before (with the stock gyro) it was harder to fly on windy days now with that set up it locks solid!

Another mod it got done was the servo links are mounted inside of the servo arms instead of the outside like the factory settings, and the head speed was bumped up too!

I dont suffer from mental iIlness, I actually enjoy mine!
