Question on how much of the motor pinion overlaps with the mainshaft gear?

For mine, the top 30-40% of the main gear is engaged by the motor pinion.

How are others setup? When I brought my kit then pinion was already fitted to the motor, so I haven't messed with it. There is no adjustment in the placement of the main gear, but I'm thinking there might be some in the motor and pinion.

What else is out there, and how much overlap / engagement do you guys have on your E325s??

Cheers

Just pulled the motor out and measured the gap as per instructions (which say 16mm). Factory installed motor is 14mm. That'll do it!

I guess I should be glad they used thread lock, but lesson learnt - never trust the factory to do it right!

Hey well my MT's pinion gear meshes 100% with the main gear ,they should else you risk wearing the main gear out.

But I'd say first check that the auto-rotation gear on top of the main gear is aligned with the tail belt gear ( the small black one) I know the main gear is fixed and so is the tail gear but if you loosen the top and bottom collets( lock-rings) you have a little bit to play with (the manual says there must be 70mm between the top lock-ring and the bottom of the main shaft)but it makes no difference and is usually sufficient to get them to mesh properly but once the tail gear meshes with the autorotation gear then you can set the pinion on the motor.Just make sure to use locktite on the pinion grub screw and the grub screws on the lock-rings.

Hope this helps!

Set the pinion to 16mm as per the book, and it meshes nicely now.

Interestingly I haven't had any problems with it the other way (215 flights), other than a few stripped main gears from crashes.
