You are running the 3100 on a Belt? I thought that motor wasn't even strong enough for the HBK2. My 3800 runs between 100 and 110 depending flight times and ambient tempature. I have seen it as high as 117 once. But that was after a 10 minute flight in 90f degree weather.

As I recall of the magnets get too hot they will start to break down. I don't recall what the critical tempature is, but I think its well above 140f.

I have seen my Mini motor as high as 165F and it seems to be fine. I now have a fan on it and it is usually in the 120F range. The same for the Align 430L, it seems to run about 40F over ambient. The ESky 3900 always got pretty warm but not too bad. I would guess it was around 130F also.

I personally think most properly sized motors are going to run in the 100F-130F range depending on the ambient temp. If it is getting hotter than that, I would make a change.

I don't have any way to measure the temp., but after flying out a battery, the motor doesn't even feel warm.

Now, granted, I'm just doing light hovering, so I'm not stressing it any. No 3D here yet.

My 450's get a little warm. The AON 3500 gets the hottest, but I run a heat sink so it's not a big deal. Same goes gor the 430XL that I run on the other 450. The 3800 in the HBK2 never gets warm. The ESc gets a little but nothing major. You may be pushing things with the 3100 in the belt..just my thoughts...

Mine been Extremely hot lately, it seem to be slow so I checked every thing out and turns out that one of the Belt Roller bearing went out. Installed BeltCP roller and new belt, now its more speedy and not as hot.

Probably need some main shaft bearings soon too.

I've been wondering about mine as well. They are one of the few original bearings left. If you have a caliper, can you measure the stock bearings. I'd like to get replacements but can't find the size listed anywear. I'd take my own off but they are such a bear to get to back in.

I too have my original guide bearings with over 200 flights on them. I pulled them recently and they seem just fine. If you want to buy new ones, all you need to really know is that they are a 2mm ID (I am nearly positive. They are the same ID/OD as the Xtreme 43T bearings and it says in the install paper, tose are just slightly shorter). If you want to run taller or larger OD, you can as long as they won't hit anything.
