hi

i have been trying to fix my blade 400 for awhile now but i can't seem to get it fixed. i had the bird in the air after some repairs but noticed the boom had a slight bend in it. So i replaced it and now i am having more problems.

I am not by the bird now but i have a few questions, but first,

when i get the heli into a hover it wants to violently spin counter-clockwise. I have centered the servo and the tailpiece (i think i did it right?)

Question: would belt tension be an issue here? too tight? too loose?

any suggestions to help me out would be great i want to take the bird on a trip with me in good condition to show off a little

thanks
-Scott

sounds like your belt is backwards! grab your heli and manually spin your main rotor blades and see which way your tail spins! thats the easiest and faster way to tell.

and here a site that will help you too!

Counter Clockwise- do you mean nose moving to the right? If so then the following may help you troubleshoot the issue. If you mean the nose is moving left that changes things.

The belt could be the problem if it is too loose and slipping. This would cause the tail rotor to lag behind and to be able to keep up.

I also could be the servo malfunctioning. If the belt is ok check the gyro by simply pluggin in the battery (use throttle hold) and turn the heli (whole body)quickly and see if the servo is doing anything. It should apply input to the tail pitch.

If the servo is stripped or gone bad it may not respond when you move the tail or you will hear the servo grinding.

If that is working the take the gyro out of Heading Hold and put it in (crap I forgot the term) lets say manual at 30% on your radio. Try it in this mode. If none of those things pan out you could have a gyro issue.

Hope this helps, I am not much of a technical writter.

You could have the belt turned the wrong way. Spin your main blades, the leading edge of the tail blades spins into the down wash of the main blades.

well i got home grabbed my screwdriver and noticed the belt was loose. i have since tightened it hopefully enough. the manual says you should only be able to push it in half way but mine is a little more then that because each time i go to screw it back in the belt pulls the boom in. needless to say that was a little frustrating and i hope i have it tight enough.

As for all the great comments thanks you. though the belt was bent the right way before for the test flight it wasn't when i spun her up in my living room. as for the other suggestions i decided to check them out any way. the gyro seems to be working when i slide the heli around with my hands and the servo is ok.

I will fly tomorrow to see if that worked, though i hope i don't have to mess with the gryo it seems the more i fix the heli the more it breaks

And RCmadness it is the nose turning left or counter clockwise
THanks

ok another thing that you can do to keep the tension on your belt once you got your heli flying right is put a drop(just a drop, so it wont be hard to take apart in the future) of super glue where the boom enters the frame that will stop the belt from coming loose! I had that problem, every other time I hit Idle up(stunt mode) the belt will loose tension so every 3 flys I had to re adjust it. A lil drop of crazy glue and now I can fly it like I stole it and no problems!

Been there and done that, my B400 seemed the same way. Eventually you will get everything figured out and you will find that you do not need as much help as you once did. After 8 months I have started to be able to tell when things need to be checked just by the way the heli handles or sounds. Before all my attention was going to keeping the heli in the air.

I learned to fly on the B400, odly enough I only crashed it 3 times learing to hover and FF. Went through feathering shafts like candy and 3 sets of Main blades, 2 sets of tail blades. Great heli to learn on but it did not like the wind in west Texas. I sold it and went to the Trex 450 V2 and the Trex 600n sport.

As for CW and CCW I was not understanding what you wrote (my issue not yours) is why I asked. I have to visualize left or right on the nose, too many spining parts on these dang heli's.

Good luck on tomorrows flight.

I've had the same problem in the past and I'll bet you didn't reinstall the belt properly. Pull off the tail and put your finger through the belt loop at the end. When you spin the main blades the belt should spin and pull downwards on your finger. Make sure the belt only has a half twist and put the tail back on. Guarantee it will be fixed.

Pretty sure you have the belt reversed, however, if you find that the belt is properly adjust then the problem is that your servo is reversed. Happened to me. Just go into your radio settings and reverse your rudder servo.

the main thing is try one thing at the time! do your belt first! if that doesn't fix it(I guaranty you it will) then reverse the servo! But one thing at the time!

What a great idea i just keep on imagining a third hand to help out!

Well it is raining in now (of course just got of work) so i will have to wait to test her out a again. My belt was really loose so i hope i the only thing i have to do track/pitch my blades to get rid of a little vibration.

Thanks for the help, heres a tips for newbs like me

If you have a nasty shake in your heli it is prob from your fly bar paddles not be spaced equally, it makes a huge differance.

this site is awesome

A cheap ($10-20) caliper from your nearest hardware store will take care of that! That's what I did and it works wonders!

that is some crazy flying, i myself am just getting into forward flight doing some figure 8 (more like fiqure 11). I love bearing witness to what this machine can do in competent hands.

There is a a lot of wind outside and it will rain later, but i had to take my bird for that test flight. she is spining out anymore, belt tension was the issue and there is only a small vibration. the vibration is prob from my pitch being about 1 degree off each oother.

I still have to compensate a little rudder to keep her straight but she is in the air and ready for show and tell!! Thanks for all the help this has been my biggest (knock on wood) crash yet and it took me about 2 weeks to get parts and repairs done. it would have taken me soo much longer without the community here

ps that super glue idea is awesome can't get over how simple and effective it is

Thanks

In these hobby we all get to be great heli mechanics before pilots! My first crash I was literally looking at the heli for 1 1/2hour because I didn't had a clue where to start or what to do!

And thanks to a couple of guys here that took their time to guide me and help me out with their knowledge and experiences! And know I know a few other locally that are awesome pilots and great guys that have guide me, help me out and teach me about these hobby!

AAAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrgh!!!

After all the work I put into fixing the heli (trimmed it straight almost) and painted everything like a bengal tiger, which I have to admit looks sweet, I broke the landing strut! and of course the lhs doesn't have the part on stock.

This wasn't a crash though, I was unscrewing the strut to paint when I snapped it in my own hand! I must of twisted it or something.

Wonder what i will do to patch it for my trip, any suggestions?

At least it looks cool

If your talking about the skids...you can wrap the broken area in unwaxed dental floss, then coat with a thin CA. Kinda how the Indians used to tie their boats with vines and sap.

It's OK....It's not your fault !!!

That's not that bad! I hit the ground with mine so hard that "I" still feeling the pain! I got carried away doing flips and the ground jumped up and hit the heli so hard that destroyed the frame in one side and crack the other side in two spots! I may need some therapy after these because Im emotionally hurt now!

PS But once again the servos(HS65MGs) survived!
