He seems to have a renewed love for airplanes. He used to say airplane flying is boring but he is fond of his Storm 3D foamy.

Good Huckin Justin!

Those rolling circles and figure 8's take some serious timing on the sticks. I love 3D foamies, great fun! Just got my ChargerRC CR-1 kit yesterday, will be in the air on Monday!

s76:

If it is around 10-13oz, get something similar to Axi2212/34 (not 26)
It will allow 12x6e slow props for best efficiency.

Going from axi2212/34 with 11x5 slowflyer to 2212/26 with 10x4.7 will give the same flight performance but lose about 2min on the flight time.

Hover performance is little more twithch wiht the smaller prop running at hight rpm too.

Is it a printed foamy? The only thing I'm not crazy about Storm it that it is all white.

If you have a link for the chargerRC please post.

3D flying

Hey great flying

If you went with a rimfire brushless motor the 22M-1000 with the Great Planes Silver Series 12A Brushless ESC you will have a light setup with even more pwer and longer flight times.

Nice plane.

The piece in the middle hanging, is it for stability ?

Benny,

heres the link to ChargerRC...

http://www.chargerrc.com/

Yup its all white. It comes with some stickers to apply but I'm looking for some depron safe paint to put some stripes on it. I have the power system ready to go.

I'll be running a Hacker A20-26M 1130kv w/ 10x4 SF prop. If I didn't already have it, I would try the Axi your suggesting, sounds nice to be able to swing such a big prop on such a small plane!

Can you recommend a brand of paint that doesn't eat depron?

Thx!

Hey Benny -- has Justin got any foamies with reversable-pitch prop setups?

He has been bugging me for the VPP(variable pitch prop) setup but I've been saying no. I think it is unnatural and stupid as there is no means to redirect airflow in inverted hover. But, I may give in.

The only way I see the vpp working good is if the motor is mid mounted with rudder and elev at both ends. If it has mixing so only the side that has the airflow works, it would fly well in both directions.

VPP was a fad and it really never caught on. Some mfgs are already dropping the setup. I also see less and less ETOC competitors using it.

This is not true. I do have a setup that is 2oz lighter with Axi 2208/34 which is very similar to 22m with same kv. The problem is that it swings smaller prop at high rpm to produce the thrust. As the rpm goes up, the current draw increases exponentially. So, even though at same rpm it may require lower current, becuase it requires higher rpm to produce the same thrust, the actual runtime is less.

I also tested one with axi 2212/26 which is identical to 2212/34 except the kv is 920ish. It flies about the same but draws more current and will require 15amp+ ESC to run it.

I've looked at hacker, rimfire, himax and other motors. None seem to produce 700kv range motors. With 700kv motor with 11x5 or upto 12x6 (running even slower for hover) will require no more than 8amp ESC to run it.

People perceive more rpm with more power. In part that is true as it draws more current to do it. But, 10% more power will draw NOT 10% but more like 30-40% more current to do it.

fantastic flying Justin

here is a link to a video, in which you can watch some inverted torque rolls, indeed not very stable, but the pilot has an awesome flying style too.

Good point!
Have a look where the engine is mounted on the plane in this vid

Thanks for that amazing video. I knew the amazing pilot Donatas through another video. But this one tops that one by a mile.

Are you talking about the pelican beak? That is the pusdo prop saver. If you use 10" prop, it will also allow you to rise off the ground and to touch n go.

It also acts as an additional wing area for knife edge flying. SideForceGenerators were too much so we chopped them off so you see only remnants stub off the wing.

that was great flying,

im suprised to see you letting him catch that plane though, with all the talk about safety i have heard from you. all it takes is a little wind, a tiny bit of dirt or whatever on the prop, and he could loose an eye. one little hand, a big tx hovering a plane, a short arm reaching for a plane right infront of his face.right when he grabs the plane the prop angles towards his face, all he has to do is miss when he grabs for it and things could get ugly. mabey it is just me but that did not look safe. if those were kids just plaing ball then fine, but if it is practice we both know you were probly making the coaches job harder.
