I've just built a new T-Rex 450 SE V2 and have been testing it out. Today something weird happened. I was flying along and one of the Align "upgrade" CF tail blades snapped off in mid flight. It had less than 10 mins flight time. I managed to land OK fortunately.

What has now happened is that there is a terrible grinding sound coming from the heli. I have checked the main gear / pinion clearance and that seems to be fine. What could it possibly be??? A faulty bearing perhaps?? There is also a noticeable vibration on the tail fin. Blades (tail and main) have been balanced and there have nevr been any crashes so this is seriously weird...

You might pull the tail rotor off and check the shaft to see if its bent.

Good suggestion - thanks - I have a brand new tail casing - I may just put it on and test it out to see if that cures the vibe/gear grinding.

Could it bend if one tail blade flies off? Wouldn't it need to crash or something?

I'd make sure and check the tail drive gear as well... And yeah, shafts don't need to be crashed to go out of alignment. I've had main shafts develop a wobble just from normal flying. Broken fly bars as well. Have you checked the alignment of your flybar paddles? Good source of vibration if the paddles are out. Good luck!

Flybars are good - double checked them.

I will try the original Align SE V2 setup and see if that sorts it out. I am Currently using an upgraded version by Sonix.

If you lost a tail blade in flight the out of balance condition of the tail probably ate your bearings. It could have bent the tail shaft as well.
As fast as the tails on these spin it was probably more destructive than a crash!

Resolved - it was actually a pitch setting problem.

Amazingly it caused this problem AND a sheared off servo mount this afternoon. Must have been one serious vide running through it!

Now the hover point is a click over the midpoint so I will fiddle with the pitch curve to get that right!
