I'm sure glad someone said something about RC Heli Mag. I used to really look forward to getting my issue every month. But since they went to the "new" design they have really lost focus. I got so tired of seeing little plastic helis on the cover that I just used a big stack of past issues to prop up an old piece of furniture that was broken. I hope they listen and make some changes. There has to be a "happy medium" somewhere.

I was Spektrum when Spektrum wasn't cool

This sucks, MHT was my fav mag back in the day. I always considered them a actual magazine with informational articles and not a bunch of ads.

My first issue, guess its a antique now

Remember this company?

I have that edition too!!!!! That is Mark Kiner from Oklahoma City flying a Robbe Futura SE. Mark got me flying Robbe way back then. Hence the username I have. I loved that Futura SE. I think Ron Lund still has his. He flew one then too.

Yeah, that was Kalt Helicopters. Wayne Mann used to fly the Zeus. Man thing was like $2K way back then!!!!

Yep, the good ol' Futura SE, what a machine. Those were the days. Kinda miss them. Seemed a more genuine love for the helis and the mechanics than now for some reason.

I have that issue too. I think one of my Futura SEs is still flying with Hotwings.

So sad to hear of the demise of MHT. I always enjoyed thier articles.

I was typing while you posted.there are raptors that are reviewed, several 600 size birds, various 50 size.also consider they are a business and from a business sense the 450 size market is where its at right now. There are 450's from every company either out or comming out and if that is whats selling, then thats what people want to read about

Oh man, this blows. I remember when Ray Hostetler started the mag and then passed it onto Mike and then Jeff. Each new "owner" held to the philosophy of MHT 100%. True it read fast, but the info is timeless. Only mag I kept every issue of.

If there is a way for MHTJeff to reconsider, that would be cool. As many have posted, MHT was the mag that most respected.

If not, good luck Jeff! Sorry to see the mag disappear. MHT will be missed.

I just picked up an issue of RC Heli Mag at the newsstand a few days ago! Never seen it before! what a pile of advertisement ridden garbage. Promptly found its way into the trash.

Will miss MHT!

I've always been a huge MHT and still have every issue from back when Ray owned the magazine. It's the only magazine I've never recycled.

perhaps... just perhaps

RC Heli is reading this.. and just perhaps they may take this idea and run with it... higher MHT writers to write tech notes in their magazine...

RC heli's guys are reading it - or at least one I know of is.

To be fair, RC Heli has a lot of good tips for beginners - and anyone else who hasn't picked up the particular one. Dave Yost has had a number of articles on painting a canopy.

I just don't like the machines they review (I had an earlier rant in this topic)

But you can't cater to beginners only -
1.) You can only do so much of the basics before repeating.
2.) All it takes to ruin a newbie's opinion of the magazine is an experienced pilot to rant about its shortcomings for 3-4 minutes at a field. Then they'll look at the magazine with a more critical eye, and probably cancel their subscriptions too.

I hate advertising. With a heat of a thousand nuclear bombs. I generally consider it a case of "what lies before you and behind you is nothing compared to what lies to your face". I have gotten to the point where I glance at a page, and if it looks like an ad, I don't spend any more time looking at it.

But I realize that the world is full of people who are willing to pay a lot of money to put their logo on paper. And doing so can make running a magazine a lot easier - there's more money to buy machines to review.

But, like many, I'm not all that happy.

Every month, this American magazine publishes 5-6 reviews. At least three of the reviews are of a heli that:
1.) Is a 450 or smaller machine
2.) Of a model I've never heard of
3.) From a manufacturer I've never heard of in a lifetime of being an R/C Aviator.
4.) That's not available for purchase in the USA
5.) Will probably never be distributed in the USA.
6.) Has instructions that, if translated into English, are only useful for entertainment - not assembly.
7.) Has horrible part quality
8.) If you're able to somehow warp the pieces together into something that looks like a heli...
9.) Is likely to return to earth in more pieces than it left, taking perfectly good radio equipment with it.

The last thing I want in a heli is a few loose screws.

They never sent out renewal notices!!

I subcribed to MHT for a few years, and I think it was a great magazine. I've kept all of my copies. The thing that was odd was that they never notified me when my subscription was running out. I subscribe to a lot of magazines, and there are ALWAYS renewal notices.

So, every year, it would take a couple of months for me to notice that I hadn't received the mag, then realize that it was because my renewal was up. I think this had a lot to do with it.

My last subscription ran out in January. I meant to renew it, but it's now July...no notices, letters, etc.

It seems minor, but I would assume that renewals are 80% of the business.

The system they used was a little different.......

Look at the mailing lable on your magazines....it will tell you WHICH ISSUE your subscription expires.......

Clever, really...... postage, like everything else has skyrocketed.... with a system like that, you know exactly when you should be renewing WITHOUT having to receive yet another notification by mail.....

I've been living under a rock. I'm just learning about MHT magazine, man is this sad. I was wondering where my last issue was and now I know. There is no subtitute in the heli community for this magazine. All that is left is color glossy pictures with very little content.

It is funny how some here are trashing RC Heli magazine. Instead of lifting the hobby up and pushing it to greater heights you sit here and take it down a peg as if some could possibly publish anything better. Stand up if you can and publish a better R/C helicopter magazine right now! If you're not part of the cure you are certainly part of the problem. Bring more people into the hobby positively, appreciate where it is going and what it has come from in its infancy despite the fact that Model Helicopter Technique (an excellent publication for many years) is no longer around. Try to find the good out there to fill the void of MHT and help others in the hobby instead of bitching on how you threw one of the "retarded" helicopter magazines into the "trash". Stop sitting at your keyboard like you have built and flown a few dozen helicopters and you can pass on your knowledge to the rest of us when you may have built and flown one or two. At least we know those magazines are trying to move forward instead of backwards. I have to salute anyone who has done more good for this hobby than bad. For the rest; do the hobby a favour - if you have nothing good to say keep it to yourself. Ignorance is bliss. I will get off my soapbox and leave you all to your madness now.

Wayne - Fly it like you stole it! You're in good hands with Runryder!
