Hi,

Does anyone know a good place to purchase an M2X.4 Tap?

I found a few places but they are coming in at >$8 a piece, anywhere cheaper?

If your tapping alluminum, brass, or plastic get a dremel with the ultra thin cut-off wheel and grind your own tap from existing bolts.

Examine an existing tap for ideas on how to grind yours.. Works great for me, your mileage may vary..

Mcmaster-carr.
MSC Industrial Supply
Grainger
etc...etc...

Get a spiral point. They cut better, and you do not have to back the tap out every turn. 8 bucks a pop is par for the course.

Thanks

I used the cut a screw method a lot in the past but usually to clean up and existing thread, didn't think to use it for a new thread cut.

McMaster is my usual vendor, if 8 bucks is the going rate I guess I just need to suck it up

Thanks

Spiral point tap are designed for thru holes, and spiral flute tap are for blind holes. It may not be an issue for what you guys are doing, but just a little info......

Both those taps are designed to be used on CNC/Tapping machines. The taps that have straight flutes are usually made for hand tapping, it doesn't mean you can't use the others by hand
