I custom build Giant Scale plankers. I play with heli's a little. I ended up with this Carbon SE with a Hanson 26 crashed in a payment deal, Heli had 3 flights on it before it went in. Thought it would be a fun project to build back to flying condition. Have received some help and suggestions here and from some buddy's and I'm getting close. Have made 4 orders for parts and have the hopefully last order coming. After teardown all electric's were trashed/destroyed, I saved 3 servo's, the basic engine, rotor gearbox and pieces of the head gear. Everything else busted and replaced. $800.00 worth and still counting. Entire frame, cooling fan and shroud, boom, boom supports, fuel tank, all shafts that turn, blades, canopy, windscreen, landing gear, entire drive gearset, and on and on. Got it all together and mocked up the radio gear and made a program in my radio to see everything wiggle. Found 2 plastic wheels with stripped splines so I ordered a complete aluminum servo arm upgrade. As is, rotation of the head seem's to have a lot of resistance and I can hear some mesh noise spinning by hand. Gear mesh is all correct and I'm hoping that it'll all run in upon start up if it will actually run. I hope to fly this as a smooth cruser and no 3D as thats about my limit's as a pilot. Here's my 2008 money pit and its yet to be started..Walt
ps, tell me I"m going to love it, please

they all are "money pit" but they fly great when set up properly according to what i have read the gears will be tight when new and will shows signs of a dust like from run in and will free up after a few tanks of fuel i have a aluminum gasses i havent flown yet and a hawk sport i am laerning to work on start shaft problems, while getting engine tuned properly still havent had 2 back to back flights without alot of messing around and getting parts ordered from century but i will not quit they sure are cool in flight

wife says if i'm going to be an addict at least its to a heli

Well it all came together and it fly's, very well for a shake down run. I got about 30 minutes on it, need some tweeking but all in all I got a Carbon Predator Gasser. The Hanson 260 seem's very sensitive on the needle's. It seems to change a lot from cold to hot as the way it idle's and tweeking the needles seem either not enough or too much. Running temp on the cylinder is 225°.This will just take some time to dial in. Time to paint the canopy...

First flight on mine was in May (I think) - just finished gallon 4 last week. It's been a lot of fun so far for me. I'm thinking about getting that velocity stack for the carb - how does it handle fast forward flight?

Four gallons in a gasser will give you the same flight time as 3 case of nitro fuel (12 gallons) in a 90 sized glow bird....or the same as a small nitro 30. But the 4 gallons of nitro fuel for the 30 would have cost aubstantially more.

Any way you cut it - you have saved a lot of money on fuel cost.

I typically get about 20 minutes from a tank, maybe a bit more. It's great to burn a $4.50 gallon of fuel and know I'm flying 710mm blades. Definitely be money ahead vs. a Nitro 90 as long as I keep it out of the dirt

The other advantage has been the dead on reliable engine. It just runs! It's been a steep learning curve to tune the gasser heli engine which has been aided by great help here and a temp gun. I really appreciate being able to not worry about starting it or having it die walking out to the flight line or worry about a flameout when I hit throttle hold. I have the Nitro engines running pretty well but the BH/Zenoah is a confidence builder..
