Service

Did you try their customer service before coming here to publicly flame spektrum/horizon hobbies? How do you know they won't replace all three of your receivers for free? Have you asked them to?

I can assure you that I have always had spectacular support and service from Horizon.

I can understand your frustration, but I believe they deserve a chance to make it right, and from my experience, they will! I agree that a design modification might be in order as well. However, if they fix/replace your receivers they are standing behind their product and showing that they value you as a consumer.

I agree I have had that happen to me too, sent it back and voilla they send me it all fixed up ready to go.

I do however think that there could be some improvements in the way of the antennas and the case itself. The case itself is pretty fragile and I think it could be beefed up a little. I always hot glue around my antennas but I have had them break off before. They have given me Great customer service so far.

I am running 3 of these RXs (2 7100Rs and 1 7100) and I am watching them very closely. I am using the glitch counters and I am watching for anything strange. If/when the antennaes break, Ill send them to Horizon. I have heard nothing but good things about JR/Spektrum's service. Hopefully a recall will come at some point (just like they have done for any other RXs that had a problem) and I can send them in for a fix. If not, Ill just keep watching them until I see a problem. I am not modding any of them since I don't want to void any warranty service that is offered.

Here is a fix for the antennas. Go get a foot of telephone wire.
(Cat 5). Strip off the outer skin and it has several threads of copper wire in it. Open up the case of the spectrum receivers and unsolder the antenna wire. Hold it up to the cat 5 cable and clip off a piece of the exact same size. Strip off the tip and solder back to the receiver. This wire is a very similar size and much more stiff than the original. It is also one solid piece of copper so it will be more durable. I have done this in several receivers and all have been working great.

Nice "RANT"!!!!!!!!!! "BUT"

BUT I am with Tyler and the rest that have posted here....
I can assure you that I have always had spectacular support and service from Horizon.
I have been running the rx's for over a year now and have only had a problem with one, which a notice had been posted about on their site along with a cure or the address to send them back to.....and that one is still in service and working just fine......and as far as the free upgrade to the latest revision, the cost of sending in the RX, or a BUNCH of them, in is not even a consideration, at least to me!!!

I have been watching and reading a lot about different problems that different RR members have had with all sorts of equipment and sometimes I need to just sit back an
It seems that a lot of people have never learned, forgotten, or haven't been in this hobby long enough to remember or learn how to mount a RX!!!! (Nothing personal intended here, but a mere "General Statement".... and if someone continues to have the same problem, I would bet that it something in that/those machine/s that is causing the failure....

I, along with a LOT of others, fly some pretty large and expensive scale and pod and boom helis with this equipment, so failure would be quite a HIT to say the least....and this goes for any heli that is being flown, OH,and how about the safety issues.....
IF you are shaking the antennas off of these rx's... check for
High Frequency Vibrations..... I have seen these cause tail booms and linkage to crack in flight over the years!!!!!! Think that might take the antenna off?????
I refuse to mount my RX's on a piece of Velcro on any nitro machine... it is still wrapped with foam, and mounted and the antennas are pointed outside of the foam as specified.... I also still use the "Strongbox" from my airplane flying days... :confusedverkill??? !!!! Not to me....and maybe this is the change that should be noted in the instructions or a memo on the site on MOUNTING THE RX PROPERLY.....
As far as a "Class Action" suite....... blah. blah, blah..... the antennas don't fall off in the package!!!!!
Sorry, but this is JMHO!!!!!!!!!!!
Just a little something that I thought should be said.... Stan

you can always cut a small peice of Robart air line to put over the antenna.

Doorman is right, I can remember when............radios were only useful half the time and if your plane didn't fly by itself with some infrequent imput from the radio you were toast. I know we pay alot for this stuff, but if you take your new heli/airplane out of the box and run it over with you car the results can be the same as if you installed the radio wrong.
