Very interesting possibilities. I like the design of that Austrailian man's engine. So small!

But I don't want the Government to take this over, just get out of the regulatory way!

Private enterprise is where we should be looking to for developing new technologies.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

WOW
nice engines very enviro friendly these cars should have been on the road 30 years ago

The Governments aren't ready to let go of all the money they make from gas powered vehicles
think about it
high gas prices = high tax dollars for government
not to mention what they charge manufactures for allowing them to pollute.

They produce a car in Montreal, Quebec that the Canadian government won't release for sale here. It is called the Z.E.N.N
stands for zero emission no noise.
but the government would lose billions in tax revenue if they release it in this country, SO

politicians won't let go of their wallets even if it kills all of us

just slightly off this topic, but something that annoys me a little is this statement... "It's a free country"...umm, NO IT AINT, if you pay taxes, then how is it free???

and the govt. is like the mafia, except we get no protection

and all they're really out for is to fatten their wallets...they're a business that employ's no-one, but are glad to take a percentage out of everything we buy.

the moment they figure out how to make the same money from these air cars as what they get from IC, then they will endorse it to the highest degree.

..sorry, i just had to get that off my chest...

!boo!

It is a free country in that you have the freedom to pursue religion, happiness and all that BS

But someone has to pay for the roads, sewers, bridges etc.
The government does provide protection by means of police, firefighters, military, CIA, FBI.
The government is in place for all and not the individual
unless your a politician
The problem is the politicians but mostly the bureaucrats that get fat like greedy lil pigs from the tax revenue.

For all we know it is the government that increased gas prices to make extra tax $$$ to pay for the war effort.

Easier to put blame on gas company than it is to take the heat from higher income tax.

With all "solutions" there's always a catch, but what is it?
Nuclear power can produce the eletricity to power the aircompressors
and you got zero emissions in producing and using the energi!
If this works out, I'm almost willing to forgive France for not
supporting our "operation freedom" in the middle east.

just think of how much fossil fuel has to be burned to compress the air.

Nevermind all of the inefficiencies of compressing air to use it for work like this...

It's a nice idea but hardly a viable one right now.
Nuclear power can produce the eletricity to power the aircompressors

Wrong.

Nuclear energy has waste associated with it. To be truly environmentally clean you need to use renewable sources like energy, hydro, solar, geothermal, etc...

FINALLY! I was hoping someone with some common sense was going to come through and umdpru saves the day again.

Compressed air is not a viable alternative. These cars have been around decades, since like the 60s, they are very common in European countries. There are many reasons they are not very popular.

Compressing and storing air is a very inefficient way of storing energy. If your going to store a compressed gas you should use a polytropic gas such as nitrogen, not air. Either way using a compressed gas is a poor way of storing energy and will always have substandard specific energy.

This inventors positive displacement device sucks.

Apparently no one here understands the concept of why we use oil. Its because its stored energy that we dont have to produce, think of a big liquid battery. With AE methods such as this, the energy still has to come from somewhere.

Why would the government not want this? The government is not an evil empire out to destroy the world for their own personal gain, well some of it isn't. And who's to say that you wont be able to make a small fortune off the next energy standard?

Everyone needs to remember that if a technology is superior to fossil fuels in terms of energy then it will be implemented by private industry . Private industry exists to make money. They won't be producing something, in mass, that will cost them money.

Yeah, that's the governments job! Oh.. wait... Never mind, they don't produce anything of value either.

I think ever rising fuel prices will change the rules
as far as what make sense. Fossil fuels are superior in so many ways
until they start running out. If I remember correctly I think they said it took 2$ worth of electricity at home to charge it.
Ofcourese having millions of people running generators, we will
need more electricity = nuclear. We need to free up oil for
important plastic products (such as walkeras)

Yup, I agree. But you have to realize that compressed air is inferior in so many ways to other forms of propulsion.

Why use electricity to compress the air and then make the compressed air do work? Skip the middle man and use the electricity directly for propulsion and eliminate the inefficiencies of compressing the air and expanding it in the first place.

From what I read so far, compressed air is the focus of the proplusion. To extend the distance/duration of travel, fuel and or electric will be the back up or assisted source.

This will be similar to the Hybrids cars.

What about air leaks? Having a massive compressed air system in my shop, and maintaining aircraft that use compressed air starters, I can tell you that high pressure anything is difficult to maintain.
