How about pole vaulting over 18 feet?
One of the most technically difficult athletic endeavors.

Bull and saddle bronc riding are also very tough and bullfighting(if you count it a sport).
Here's an interesting article about some endurance events and how they were ranked by outside magazine from toughest to easiest.http://www.adventurecorps.com/when/toughevents.html. Some where mentioned above.

How about defending your country, in whatever "venue" that you're needed.

Tough gig, ain't it?

I still think pro bicycle riders are the top dog athletes.

You say no?

But really, watch the race today. Tell me any other athelete that goes through what they are doing? 97 miles today, all up hill(MOUNTAIN)!!! 4+ hours!!

The conditioning these guys have is insane!!! I bet 99.99% of all people would not be able to even complete 1 mountain stage!!! Heck any other stage at that too.

Almost everyone I asked says that they cant think of any one more extreme. Its not like they just wake up one day and say" hey Im going to ride the Tour" These guys are in TOP shape, physically and mentally.

21 stages!!! an Ironman is done in one day(same with your rugby game, pole vault,Baha...). Tough yes, but not 21 stages, back to back!!! They keep heart rates up to 180BPM!!! 80-100 RPMs.

Love the commercial...next time you want to know what its like to crash on a Pro tour...strip down to your underware, and jump out of your car doing 50...thats what its like to crash on a pro tour!!!

Yep, I say no. There's no minimizing the extreme nature of what pro cyclists do, but you gotta admit they're getting a large amount of cooling air over their bodies, and aren't often doing their sport in Death Valley temperatures.

For calories burned per hour you may have a point, but for overall, major, high-stress drainage to human biophysiology, I still contend that the Badwater UltraMarathon has all other organized events beat by quite a stretch.

Curling...it takes a minimum of three people just to practice.

If everyone is thinking alike, someone isn't ...
