Flying helis is less dangerous than so many other hobbies. (This going to ruin it for all of us) is just stupid talk
Flying RC in a reckless manner has resulted in restrictions and loss of flying sites before and will in the future. There is a reason many parks ban any and all R/C flying and this video illustrates why. For everyone to pile on when they see something like this is natural and is done so that anyone else that might think it's a good idea will know better. Anyone who doesn't understand the problem with that video just couldn't have any real flying experience. That's not to say some don't overreact to videos they deem unsafe. But Jebus Forkin Christy, learn how to pick your battles.

Its not the careless flying of the individual, He was wrong and very careless. Its the police here on RR that seems to ban together to make it seem more than what it is. Its the RR police that is funny to listen to. Each and every one of you have tested your heli in the drive way at least once. Don't make it out to be the most illresponsible thing that ever happened. Just be safe, but no need to jump on the Safety police ban wagon because everyone else is. I think everyone here that has experience knows the danger. Its the Pounce on attitude every time we see a video of something stupid. I'm not in no way advocating that the video was safe, I'm only pointing out the crazy dog pile that everyone seems to join in on to make themselves look better in everyone else's eyes.

I guess I should have put "learn how to pick your battles" in bold. Is a safety nazi nazi better than the safety nazi? Isn’t that the real reason this thread became several pages long? If everyone agreed it was an example of what not to do and left it at that then the thread would have died. So in taking great pains to critique and mock a well deserved dog pile you only added to it.

Dilbeck, Your pushing the point that everyone is jumping on the safety bandwagon. Jumping on a bandwagon implies that the thought was not original to you. You don't have the right to assume that the people on the thread did not think helis were unsafe before this thread.

The bottom line is that people viewed a video they deemed to be unsafe and shared that (original) opinion. People like Airwolf feel the need to correct people even when they probably agree. It's almost like a self-validation defense mechanism. Very sad.

I agree! Both sides stated their points clearly and in multiple ways and permutations. So...can we let this thread die already?!?

Please what ? ? ?
I'm not the only that sees it that way.
I'm looking for moderation and the zealots (safety police) have refused.
Don't expect everyone to jump on YOUR wagon.
That's delusional when you're not talking about math or physics.

Each and every one of you have tested your heli in the drive way at least once.
Wrong. The first time I spooled up my heli was in my basement (it's an electric) by myself, the only other people in the house were asleep two floors up. The only safety I compromised was my own. (I'll never say a person doesn't have the right to place themselves at risk ... we do it every time we step out to the flight line.)

The next time I spooled it up for a test hover was at a park, which was empty. When people started showing up to practice soccer, I packed it up and drove to our AMA flying field.

To those of you saying the "safety police" are blowing this out of proportion, I'd like to point out that this thread did start out just as some people stating how bad an idea it is to fly like the person in the video did. It didn't turn heated until others started making light of the safety issues. This thread isn't really about the original video ... it's about differing attitudes towards safety. It's a debate that will never be won.

(The thread is also a banquet hall for trolls like AirwolfRC.)

If your psychology requires you to spout those kinds of comments so you can feel better, then so be it.
If you think it has any chance of affecting me, you're right, but not in the way you want. For starters, it makes me realize that your argument is worthless when you resort to those kind of comments.

Whenever these kind of situations come up, I keep thinking "Lord of the Flies".

Whatever blows up your skirt, Mr. Troll ... the feeling is mutual, as regards your ever-so-witty singing pig comments.

And yes, it does make me feel better, because I get a slight giggle out of calling out the trolls when I spot them. As for its effect on you, or the value you place on my arguments, I couldn't be more apathetic.

Are you a Troll?

One way to become known as a troll is to regularly post short comment replies (junk) that on average contains no relevant content. This site is about sharing your hobby experiences.

Even in Off Topics, replies need to contain some relevant or coherent dialog. Remember that many members see every post via the “Start Here” or “View New” links and become annoyed with throwaway posts.

In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who enters an established community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, most often in the form of posting inflammatory, off-topic, or otherwise inappropriate messages.

Ill post outta this thread. No I dont feel like you owe me anything AW, I was just asking. You know, you are a smart guy and Ive learned from many of your posts. When you get on your normal roll, as this thread is a perfect example of, you just seem very unpleasent. Like I posted before, you sure follow your own pattern. I guess Ive learned enough for this thread.
You almost never answer a direct question.
Time wasted is time lost.
