Not sure where to post this, but since it is happening with my Trex 450sa and you guys seem to know a h*ll of a lot more then I do about this stuff, here goes.

Just recently I am having loss of power after about 5 min of flight. I have two good batteries and it is happening on both, one is a TP 2070 Extreme series with about 40 cycles, the other is an off brand 2100mah with only about 15 cycles, everything was working fine until about 1 week ago when it seemed I lost power early and thought maybe I had not timed my flight correctly. Only putting about 1100mah back into the bats and they don't have enough power to hold the heli up.

Nothing is binding up, belt is loose enough, blades spin freely. motor is the original that came with my 450 when it was an xl as is also the align esc. both have well over 400 flights on them.

Just made sure bat was balanced using my Thunder Power "TP 205v" balancer which I use in conjunction with my Pro Peak Prodigy II charger about every second or third cycle. Flew for 5 min and 20 seconds, hover and circles, no 3d. At that point heli wouldn't hold a hover at almost full throttle. Motor was 98deg, esc was 122 deg, bat was 117 deg. ambient temp about 82 deg., recharge took 1104mah to fully recharge. Battery seemed to take forever to balance again and I recharged at 1/2c or about 1100mah.

Do they balancers go bad, or is that pretty rare?

The charger couldn't make a difference on the balance, can it.

Could the esc be going out, but that wouldn't cause the unbalancing would it?

Thanks guys, need some help here.

have you flown it since then? if you have does it have power in the beginning of the flight or is it down all the time?

also do u know what ur discharging 2? if your only balancing every 2 or 3 a cell could of been out of balanced and been damaged

Power is very good in the beginning, and I never have taken more then 1300 - 1400 mah to recharge.

if its good in the beginning i would say its either your batteries, or your electronics are heating up more than you think, but i fly in 100 degree weather and all my stuff is fine so i would think your batteries might be bad... i would recommend balance charging every time so your cells dont get wacked... but thats what i would think

I have no problem with that, how long should it take to balance the bats. should I use a slower charge so it has time to balance?

Just flew 2 more bats, the tp 2070 I charged with my tp balancer attached and just got 4 minutes of mild circles, hovering and ff.

Second bat I charged the same but finished with my eflight charger that charges and balances at the same time using the balanceing plug. I noticed less pep after about 2-3 minutes but still flew all the way to the end of 7 1/2 minutes.

I am beginning to think my balancer has gone bad. Thunder Power makes good products, I will not say anything bad about them, like all electronic items, anything can go bad at anytime.

My lhs said if I bring that battery to them tomorrow, they will charge it and balance it with TP's charger/balancer combination, if that works I guess I will be getting a new charger balancer.

FWIW, the TP 2070mAh packs lose their capacity to hold a decent voltage pretty quickly- I'd say most folks did not have good luck with them and TP pulled them from the market. Try a new pack such as FP or AirThunder, or my favorite Hextronic Gen3 from HobbyCity. Only $33 shipped if you buy a couple of them. They are also the most powerful, most durable Trex 450 pack I've flown thus far.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

Thanks for the info, never heard about the problem with the 2070's before, I will check out the others you mentioned.
