got a new trex 450. don't have electronics yet. i'm very new to rc heli's. my finances are limited as far as buying to experiment. i'm wanting a versatile charger and balancer that i can grow with. also there are so many batteries to choose from, and they all advertise long flight time etc. i'd like to hear, from experience, the best battery and charger setup for a trex 450 SA that's out there. don't mind spending some money, but i'd like to buy once. i'm sure the info is on rr already, but i've spent hours looking over so many setups i thought it may help to get specific.. any links or info would be much appreciated.

The best charger/balancer for 3s 2100/2200 LiPos is the FMA Cellpro 4s. It is also one of the most reasonably priced balance chargers out there at $75. It charges through the balance connector only and that is not only safer but it also allows for faster charging without the fear of problems.

As for batteries, everyone has their favorite brand but the truth is that any well known 25C battery will do fine. You can run the 18C-22C ones but the extra headroom on the 25Cs is nice. FMA makes very high quality packs but the 25C ones are a bit expensive. The current fadish brands are Outrage from Helidirect and Kong Power. Both seem to get great reviews and are cheaper than the old FlightPower and ThunderPower favorites.

Huh? The Cellpro 4S (newest version) will charge at 4 amps max. You can charge any capacity pack you want, 4S and under.

told you i was ignorant . just trying to get more than one option to choose from. sounds like a great charger for the price especially. i'm just trying to understand the whole balancing thing as well as what i'll need if i go to a 500 or something. i mainly want to know why people pay 200 bucks for a charger balancer if you can get this nice of one for 75. i don't like admitting how ignorant i am but when i do i always learn more. thanx

Well, if you plan to get a 500, that changes things. The Cellpro 4S is really only good for 450 size packs and smaller. Most people run the 500 on 5S or 6S, so you would need something bigger.

The only way to get around that would be to run 2 3S packs in series for the 500 and charge them separately. Not the best solution though. I actually run my 500 on 2 4S packs in series and until recently used two Cellpro 4S chargers. Just upgraded to the Cellpro 10S, another option for you.

that's the thing. i love these heli's and i plan to fly for a long time. so i would like to buy something now that i'll have through many different heli's. i should've mentioned my plans to step up to larger birds. i started with the 450 because the larger birds are intimidating to start with. but i plan to buy the 500 within a year or less.

Hi ruddernate Welcome to the hobby I use the Great Planes Triton-2. You also need the equinox balancer = $165.00ish. it will handle up to 5 cell in series. it's a good charger, also requires a 12v sorce, which isn't bad because you can hook up to your field box or car.But don't leave your batt. unattened.
