Guys, I'm a Century newbie, just considering getting a Swift.
What are the differences between the 16 and the 550? I am into 3D flying, likely want 2000rpm+ headspeeds. Thanks for the help,

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

550: CF frames, CNC head and tail, different anti-rotation bracket. Also has the triple bearing upgrade.

16: Plastic frames, head and tail.

Add the triple bearing upgrade, CNC grips and CNC headblock to the 16 and it will be a very capable 3D machine. Parts are very reasonable for both....Ron

Swift has non driven tail. During autos the tail is not pilot controlled, just follows the nose until the end when it drifts. I think it's a big difference for some one not used to it. TimT

They both do but it was a function of weak LG and bad boom brace placement. I put the Raptor 30 LG on and moved the braces to the bottom of the elctronics tray and no vibration at all.....Ron

I've flown the swift 16 loads, my mate has one. It flys great, but doesn't have a driven tail so makes autos are bit more tricky, plus doesn't have as much bling (CNC swashplate, rotor head and CF frames).

For these reasons I got the 550 Carbon over the 16, only hovered it so far but its lovely .

You can get the auto hub for a driven tail for the Swift 16 right? I mean isn't the 550 just a carbon framed and basically a upgraded swift 16?

nope no driven tail from century for the 16, i've seen one person build one and it took some major mods.I have a couple 16's, great machines but for $80.00 more then the 550 you can have the 620se witch i have one of aswell and it is totaly blinged out all carbon and cnc only one plastic peice on it and that would be the gearbox.

Plus you'll have the options of 620 blades and the double maingear setup for 10 and 12s aplications, mine is a 12s with the 650a 565kv motor. she is insane fast in fff yet very stable and smooth.

As per website...

550 does include a CNC head "block" but not main blade grips nor the CNC tail. (unlike the 620)

Swift 16 is 3D capable out of the box. Only upgrade I would consider a must is the triple bearing...and if not mistaken it might be included in the latest release but I could be wrong.
Is there a weight difference between the 16 and 550?
as per website

550 is lighter by .02 kilograms while swinging 550's blades vs 515's.

oh yeah...driven tails are for wussy's

yes the 16 can swing 550's and does it very well, and no the latest rendition does'nt come with the third bearing.but it's not necassary with the newer frames from what i've heard.and the 550 and 16 are almost identical in weight but the 620 is half pound heaveir.

Extending the tail (and boom of course) using Trex 600 belt lets you install 600 mm blades on the 16. Sport flies great. Dunno about extreme 3D tho.

Non of my Swifts do the "chicken dance" and yes I use the latest version of the stock landing gear struts (came out over a year ago).

Please google "Century Swift" on youtube...there you will find videos of many Swifts spooling up - no "chicken dance"

So if yours does, then it maybe worth finding out why mine and the others don't and yours does.

An excellent point, when my m8 got his 16 around 18 months ago now the undercarriage was horrible, it was to high and weak. This meant that when it spooled up it shook, due to the low head speed. BUT it has been redesigned with a V3 undercarriage out not. I' ve just finished putting together my 550 Carbon, and it comes out of the box with the V3 undercarriage totaly stock.

I presume this will be the same for the a new 16.

I understand that the last two or three production runs of Swift 16's have all had the V3 landing gear in the kits.

The only time one would find a Swift with the old gear would be if they got an earlier version.

When they changed over to the V3 gear, they had a posting on their site that instructed anyone with the V1 or V2 gear only had to send them back to century for a free exchange to the V3's.

So if one did get a kit with the older gear, if he sent them in right away he would probably have had the new struts in hand before he was finished building his kit.
