I have a RJX extreme 50 heli. 760 gyro BLS251 futaba servo. 3 BLS451 on cyclic. Power is an Arizona regulator from fromoco. 3 cell 2100 thunder power lipo battery.

I am not into 3d or even fast forward flight yet. Engine has about 2 gallons in hovering. I flew out at about 100 feet up. Made a slow left turn and flew back. After another turn I came in a hovered to a landing.

That is when I noticed the blue led on the gyro blinking. It blinks twice with a pause, just like in the initial setup. The servo sounds funny like it is getting a slow pulse stream. The BLS251 is an 850 micro second servo.

Switching the gain to rate mode light goes off. Switching to HH mode light blinks. Power cycled at field no difference. Home 12+ hrs later same.

Before I reprogram the gyro I want to make sure it is not defective. I had heard that there maybe some issues with the 760

Double blink means that the ds760 is seeing a command to yaw. This may be because the rudder neutral has not initialised correctly (1), the trims have been moved since it last initialised (2) or because the rudder stick of the transmitter is centring poorly (3).

(1)(2). It is advisable that you power on the ds760 in AVCS mode so it can learn the new rudder stick neutral. If you are initialising in Normal mode the ds760 uses the last known stick neutral which may be incorrect if you have moved the trims or never never powered on in AVCS.

(3). If your stick is not centring very accurately you may wish it increase the stick dead-band using the PC software.

There are no issues with the ds760 and in particular the behaviour you described is normal operation described in the user guide.

I would also check your radio's pots. I have a friend who's pots gave up and the first sign was the gyro not initialising properly as the servo channel was sending jittery impulses when at neutral.

Side question

is it possible to use the arizona regulator at 11volts (3cell lipo)?

Nope. Max voltage is 10 volts. Why would you want to do that anyway? It'd just mean you'd have a much heavier battery.

Thanks for all the help. I will check things out more closely. I was afraid that the programing had been lost. I normaly spool the heli up in rate mode and then switch to Heading Hold on the ground.

What will reset the double blinks?

I am going now and check the neutral on the rudder channel. The radio is a 12zh about 6 months old.

Thanks again JImmy

Just went out and checked the radio. The rudder channel has trim on +3. When switching the mode to AVCS the rudder servo moves a little to the left position. I don't understand why that is.

Put gyro in AVCS mode while it was blinking 2 I giggled the tail back and forth about an inch. The blinking stopped and went back to solid blue.

Looks like it is working and I will trust it to keep flying

Thanks

Power on the heli while the radio is set to AVCS mode. This will enable the ds760 to recalibrate for the stick neutral it sees and the LED will be solid on.

After that the LED will only flash when the stick is moved either left or right indicating that the ds760 sees your command to yaw the heli.

I hope its a tipo because no, its not save. The higher the input voltage, the lower the ability to hold up with amp draw.

I would probably ask Kurt @ Fromeco but from what I know of the reg specs, it's dissipating a lot of heat with input from a 12 volt lipoly pack.

I agree with Tony, I would cease and desist.

Oh, I see. That reg won't last too long like that.

Sorry the 3 cell setup in the original post is indeed a typo. It is a 2 cell 7.4 2100 thunder power.

The regulator has 2 outputs gyro and servo 5.0 second adjustable set to 6.0 I do not fly 3d yet so I was not looking for extreme servo power.
