Is it normal and OK to have this?

I mounted the fan on the end of a brand new G26PUH and tightened the crank bolt. Afterwards, I noticed I can "push/pull" the crankshaft about 1/16" in and out. Is this normal? I don't recall experiencing this with other engines.

Also, do you guys Locktite the fan hub to the crankshaft? (not the bolt -- actually Loctite the hub to the shaft)...If so, what kind do you use? Blue, Red, Green?

Thanks!

Hanson

This is one of the things that Hanson does -- take out end play in the shaft. If you have too much play it can be a problem. He spreads the crank just right to take out the end play and true it at the same time. You might want to check with him, though some play is not unusual and I don't think you should be totally alarmed about it.

Also remember that the crankshaft is in two halfs, so if you hit it from one side (top or bottom) either from assembly work or a crash, you can compress the crank and cause this endplay.

I never locktite the fan itself to the shaft, just the bold in the center.

I would use shims before I tried to spread the crankshaft. Look at the manual for the p/n of the shims. I never could buy them from Zenoah so I make my own.

This engine came from Al and he has reassured me that it is not an issue. I just checked the crankshaft on our oldest G26 that we ran for 3 years and it has the same amount of play.

Thanks!
