I'm up working on the Rex. I gotta tell all you Rex+HS65 owners out there that go through hell to install your big ass servos that I just finished installing some s3114 servos and they are easy cheezy. I didn't even have to take the top round frame brace out to get the aileron and elevator servos in. Hell I put them all in with servo arms still on them. They are too narrow for the frame holes but that is no real big issue because they are so narrow that you can just pinch the other side instead of putting a screw through it. It may not look pretty but it works plenty well.

Ok Tryan it is time to set something straight. A while back we were talking about the benefits of working on a Mini and you said the motor was easy to work on in a Rex ... well I have now installed one on both and let me tell you ... the Rex is a PITA! The screws that came with the 430L are made from some non-magnetic metal and I must have dropped them 20 times trying to get then in the holes. You have to snake you way to the motor mount and it is simply not easy at all. On the Mini you just remove the motor mount, install the motor and then put the whole thing back in. Now that is the way to do it. I will say that the experience would have been better with allen screws or magnetic ones but it is still a far cry from the ease of the Mini.

I have other complaints when comparing the Rex to a Mini but there also some nice things. Like the tail, it may not be removable but it is easy to work on and very easy to set the correct tension. And all the metal head and tail parts are super smooth, I can see them working very well. I will write more as the build progresses.

Sorry TJ you want me to send you some self captivating allen head screws? I got them from our advanced development lab they have a locking mechanism milled into the screw so no split or flat to mess with and used a 6" allen screwdriver easier to install a motor than the King. And I was discussing with fender how easy it is to set gear mesh. On the older XL model it was impossible but as you now know you just look through the top and there it is.

Oh BTW the offer is open on the self captivating allen head screws been using them for quite some time now no loctite or any threadlocker I just check them periodically and they are holding excellent.

Ah the good old days ... when I was young and innocent ... well in terms of helis that is ... good times

Watch at YouTube

On a more serious note, I just ran my first Outrage 2200 25C pack through the Mini and it did just fine. Nothing too spectacular, it just worked. The temp was pretty cool out so the pack was only slightly warm. It seemed to keep pretty constant power but I wasn't really paying too much attention to that. The pack is much heavier than the FMA packs and so I am going to have to tinker with it in order to get the heli leveled out again. A 6min hover with a 4min break in the middle to work on the blades used up 1650mAh. More than I would have expected. I will have to compare it more directly to a FMA pack to see if there are any real differences.

On another side note, I yanked the blades off the Mini in order to add some tracking tape and to rebalance them and when I put them back on, I put them on the wrong sides. I mean I usually mark a blade grip red and then always put the red blade back on there. This keeps things constant and helps with tracking and such. Well I couldn't see my red mark on the grip so I guessed. Well I guessed wrong and as a result the tracking was about 1in out. I had never heard the Mini make that sound before and it REALLY wanted to go right. I swapped the blades back and it is now only about 1/4in out. It looks like even the Align Pro blades aren't perfect.

And a third note, there is no way the Outrage packs will fit in the King. They run the battery lead down the side like a TP pack and that makes them about 3/16 wider than the FMA packs. That is too wide for the King. Plus the weight will not be good either.

I have 3 2200 25c packs and have about 50 flights on each, all in the King using a stock unmodified battery tray. In fact I had to add some velro on the sides of the battery tray to keep the packs more firmly in place.

Here are the specs for comparison. I was worried about the size but took some measurments, ordered and single pack to test and it fit fine. Its larger than the FMA 18c, but close to the FMA 25c pack. Since there is alot of room between the pack and the upper portion of the frame, the critcial dimensions are length and width. The FMA packs are only 1mm and 2mm (respectively) more narrow, and equal too or close to the FMA packs for length.

Weight wise, the Outrage pack is between the two FMA packs and only 13grams lighter than the 18c pack. The FMA pack with the same C rating is 13 grams heavier than the Outrage.

Outrage
Size : 26x35x100 mm
Weight : 168g (With Wire)
Ratings: 25C

FMA Black Label
Size: 22mm thick, 96mm L x 34mm W
Weight: 181 grams / 6.4 oz.
Ratings: 25C

FMA Red Label
Size: 20mm thick x 33mm W x 100mm L
Weight: 155 grams / 5.5 oz.
Ratings: 18C

I weighed the Outrage packs yesterday and they do not weigh 168g. They weigh 180g. The FMA 18C packs weighed 150g.

The size of the Outrage 2200mAh 25C pack sitting in front of me is

116mm long
23mm high
38mm wide

weight with deans = 185g

Sounds like you've got the 30c version.

http://www.helidirect.com/product_i...roducts_id=6877

* Continuous Discharge Rate: 30C
* MAX Discharge Rate : 60C
* Capacity: 2200mAH
* Size : 23x38x114 mm
* Weight : 183g (With Wire)

I've weighed my 25c Outrage packs (with Deans) and they come out to 170g.

Well they say 25C on the wrapper ... do yours have a black wire running down the side? That is what is making them so wide.

Dang! No, my packs don't look like that. No wire down the side and very squared off. I'm mail HD and see what's up.
